Chapter 2: The Dark Contract

855 Words
POV: Roxana The door to the Alpha’s private study slammed shut behind us, cutting off the distant murmurs of the crowd. Magnus walked straight to his massive desk, completely ignoring me as he poured himself a glass of dark liquor. The room felt incredibly small with his towering, muscular frame dominating the space. I stood near the door, my hands clenched at my sides to stop them from shaking. The reality of what I had just done hit me, making my lungs squeeze tightly. I had just traded a cheating step-son for a ruthless tyrant who could crush my throat with one hand. Magnus downed his drink in one swallow, setting the glass on the table with a thud. He leaned back against the desk, crossing his arms over his broad chest as he stared at me. His dark eyes scanned me from head to toe, dissecting my weak stance. "You look like you are about to faint, Roxana," Magnus stated coldly, his deep voice vibrating through my chest. "Where is that fierce courage you showed in the ceremonial hall just five minutes ago?" He didn't sound amused; his tone was purely transactional and completely devoid of warmth. "I am not going to faint, Alpha," I replied, forcing my shoulders back and taking two steps forward. "I am simply waiting for your terms so we can finalize this arrangement." I needed him to see that I was a partner in this, not a helpless victim begging for shelter. A dark, mocking smile touched his lips, though his eyes remained completely ice-cold. "This is not an arrangement, girl, this is a contract signed in blood," he said, standing up. He pulled a thick parchment document from a drawer and slammed it to the desk. "Read it carefully," Magnus commanded, pointing a finger at the elegant cursive lines written on the page. "Once you sign this, your life belongs entirely to the throne until your duty is fulfilled." I stepped closer. I looked down at the parchment, my eyes quickly scanning the harsh terms laid out before me. The first clause stated that I would surrender all personal freedoms and submit completely to the Alpha's authority. The second clause was bolder, explicitly demanding the birth of a healthy male heir. "There is a third clause you should pay close attention to," Magnus murmured, leaning in close over my shoulder. His hot breath brushed my ear, sending an involuntary shiver straight down my spine. "If you fail to produce a son, this contract becomes completely null and void." "And what happens to me if the contract becomes void?" I asked, turning my head slightly to look at him. Our faces were only inches apart, and the sheer power of his dominant aura made it hard to breathe. "You will be stripped of the mistress title and exiled to the feral borders," Magnus said without a single shred of pity. "My wives will ensure you do not survive a single day out there, so failure is death." He was completely blunt, laying out my potential execution like a simple business risk. I swallowed the lump of fear in my throat, refusing to let him see how much his words terrified me. I looked back at the paper, knowing that going back to the pack as a rejected omega was also a death sentence. Jaxon and Seraphine would make my life an absolute living hell. "I accept the terms," I said clearly, picking up the silver quill resting on the inkwell. "But I have one condition of my own that must be added to this document." Magnus raised an eyebrow, his expression turning dangerous at the thought of a subordinate making demands. "An omega does not dictate terms to the supreme Alpha," he growled low in his throat, a warning sound that made my inner wolf cower. He gripped my wrist tightly. "You are here because I allowed it, Roxana." "I am not dictating, I am negotiating for the safety of your future heir," I gasped out, fighting against his tight grip. "If your wives or Jaxon kill me before the child is born, you lose everything too." I stared back at him defiantly, refusing to back down from his glare. Magnus stared at me for a long moment before his grip slowly loosened around my bruised wrist. "Speak then," he commanded, crossing his arms again as he stepped back. "What is this condition that you think is worth risking my wrath over?" "I want absolute protection from your step son Jaxon. Victoria, your first wife. Celeste, your second wife, and their children," I stated, rubbing my sore skin. "They must be forbidden from entering my private quarters, and any attempt on my life must be punished by immediate execution." I needed a legal shield if I was going to survive. Magnus let out a short, dark laugh that held no humor at all. "Done," he said, biting his own thumb with his sharp fangs until dark red blood welled up. He smeared his blood across the bottom of the parchment, sealing his royal vow. "Now sign it, Mistress.”
