Elena's POV The phone Yvon held out vibrated in her hand, the screen glowing. “Darius wants to speak with you,” she said, her smile gentle. “It’s on video.” My heart lurched. I took the phone, my fingers brushing against hers. Immediately, a small, bright face filled the screen. “When will you be back, Mummy?” a childish voice asked, already a little whiny. It twisted something inside me. I looked at my son, saw a version of myself reflected in his wide eyes, the same dark hair, the same slight upturn at the end of his nose. Darius. He had my eyes too, deep brown and a little too serious for a child his age. His cheeks were a little flushed, a smudge of something dark near his mouth. He looked healthy, but his brow was furrowed, a worry line already forming from such a young age.
