The hum of the plane filled Carmel's ears. She had been dumped in the back like a piece of luggage, so when the plane would go up of down suddenly with the turbulence, she would hover above the floor a few inches and then slam back down to the floor of the plane as it settled out. They had landed, a very bumpy landing, and then Gretel had crawled in the seat next to the man shouting, “go, go go!” They took off again, banking hard, making Carmel feel slightly airsick.
