Alexander raced through the woods, picking up Paxi’s scent. He darted down the path at the breakneck speed of an Alpha, eventually passing the warriors who had initially been sent to follow Carmel and bring her back to the packhouse. He followed the turnoff from the main trail, a path that he almost never took as, when he had explored it as a young man, it led to several dead ends. The trail had many spurs, but he continued to follow Paxi’s scent until her trail just… stopped. Everything dried up… the path, her scent, even the forest floor looked completely undisturbed.
Richard was right behind him and came to rest right at his side. They both shifted back into human form. Alex stood, comfortably naked. He was surprised to see that Richard was fully dressed, shoes and all, not a hair out
