CHAPTER 24. IMPEACHED

Ava

"Thank you, Alpha Trey. I'll leave soon, I won't stay for too long." I responded.

Jay's behavior caused shivers down my spine for some reason. But if I was going to find my kids, I was going to have to put my trust in him.

Alpha Trey simply glanced at me before quietly withdrawing. Everywhere I went, I felt like I was drawing problems like a magnet. My entire life has been one of being unwanted by everyone. I left where I was, and Jay quickly followed.

"You were aware that he wouldn't welcome me here," I remarked, looking annoyed. "And why the hell did you tell him you would go with me?"

He met my gaze and saw the expression on my face, saying, "I know you feel like you're alone in this, Ava, but you're not. You'll need to have faith in me as I help you in finding your kids."

Making sure no one would overhear them, Rae and Elio chatted in the car as they left the police station together. He was aware that the choice he was going to make would cause his marriage to Annie and his friendship with Kyle to fall apart. Still, there was no other option. Somehow, Rae connected with my kids, and he was desperate to find them.

Not the ideal way to start the subject though. "Four children have been kidnapped. They're quadruplets and there's a huge possibility that those four kids are mine."

Elio stared at the alpha, perplexed, not knowing how four kids could have vanished from the city overnight. He spoke slowly so as not to say something stupid. He was speaking with the Alpha, after all.

"These children aren't Luna Annie's, right?"

He cleared his throat and said, "I apologize, sir if my questions are too personal."

Rae sighed deeply to himself as he realized he would have to divulge certain truths to get Elio's assistance.

He swallowed hard. "I was mated before I married Annie. So use your imagination. The quadruplets were abducted after my mate, Ava left the pack while pregnant. She is now requesting my assistance in finding them."

Elio turned away, thinking about what the alpha had said.

"You don't seem to be completely certain that these kids are yours."

But Rae said nothing, lost in thought. He knew they were his. He just needed a reason to argue with me all the time.

"So, why do you want to find them so much, Alpha? You look quite desperate."

Rae was both fascinated and irritated as he glanced at Elio. This was not the right man for him to be speaking with on the subject. "They're just children, Elio," he added seeming friendly as he considered how impolite he may have been. "In addition, I want to confirm that they are indeed my children."

Upon glancing at the alpha, Elio realized that doubt clouded his mind. He came to realize that those who weren't close to Rae had an inaccurate impression of him. Though he wasn't even positive they were his kids or even a member of his pack, Rae had affection for the four kids. Or so he thought. But Elio could see that things went well beyond what he'd said.

"So, finding the quads is our goal?"

"It's not just that, their mother is missing too," he added, sighing gloomily and massaging his hands. "I believe she is with Jay because she left the building this morning."

Elio whispered, "It's more complicated than I thought."

"Was there anything he disclosed about his pack? Where is he from?"

"Nothing, sir," Elio answered. "In fact, the sheriff didn't question him — he just put him in the cell."

Rae's eyes flickered from hazel to yellow.

"What the fck is wrong with Derrick? And what the hell is he doing disobeying my direct orders." He snarled. "He let a prisoner escape under his watch and he couldn't at least get any information from him. So fcking useless. I'm going to deal with him later."

"I do not know, Alpha."

Elio looked away from Rae and spoke in a shaky voice, trying not to show how nervous he was. Despite understanding that Elio was concealing a very serious matter, Rae watched him for a considerable amount of time before concluding that he was probably just scared of him. Elio recoiled in his seat as they were about to leave after Rae started the car.

"Where are we headed?" Elio inquired after the car started.

"We're heading to the pack house," Rae said, sensing Elio's frightened stare on him. "You're going to replace Kyle officially."

"Like seriously Elio?" He grinned as he glanced at him. "You cannot allow fear to control you if you wish to walk beside me."

"Are you certain about this? Don't you think you're probably making a mistake by removing Kyle and replacing him?" Elio asked.

"I'm sure you'll understand my reasons soon," he remarked as the car came to a stop in front of the building.

After exiting the vehicle Rae waited for Elio to follow suit. Elio though seemed afraid. Seeing that Kyle was going to be fired made it seem like a bad decision to walk in there with Rae. It felt impossible to turn back now.

Taking a deep breath, he stepped out of the car and bravely made his way inside the building. Elio endured a terrible wait while Rae gave them instructions to call Kyle.

It seemed as though a heavy mist had descended around them when Kyle came. The atmosphere seemed denser. Seeking to make sense of what was going on, he glanced first at Rae and then at Elio.

With a furrowed brow, he questioned, "Isn't that the clerk at the police station? Why is he here?"

"I think you already know that Jay escaped from prison, don't you?" Rae asked.

He feigned surprise and remarked, "I had no idea, Rae."

"Kyle, you make a lot of mistakes. A lot of them have serious repercussions for the pack, like Jay's escape." Rae sighed deeply.

"It wasn't my duty to look after an outsider," Kyle uttered with contempt. "Moreover, why do you think you need a sheriff that you appointed yourself?"

Rae's voice became harsher and louder. "You should have been the first to know he escaped. You're my beta for goddess's sake. What on earth were you even doing while I was away? It's not even up to twenty four f*cking hours, Kyle."

"Perhaps because you're too preoccupied trying to find the missing quadruplets that someone who is no longer a member of this pack claims are your kids."

Rae's eyes changed to golden yellow. Hearing that remark made him feel his veins pulsate with anger and his wolf was on edge. With a quick step, he approached Kyle, snatching him by the collar and pressing him up against the wall.

He felt the need to kill him, saying, "I'm your alpha, so you'd mind how the f*ck you speak to me and you won't disrespect me. Also, I'm removing you from your position."

Rae didn't know why but he couldn't stand anyone speaking about his mate like that, and he didn't care who it was, he was going to deal with them.

"What do you mean by that?" As though to stop Rae from doing something foolish, Kyle clung to his arms.

He replied coldly, "I'm saying that from this moment on, you cease to be my second, Kyle. You're hereby stripped of the position of the pack's beta."
