CHAPTER 15. DECEIT

Ava

"Did Rae offer you this blanket?" Annie asked feeling the warmth of the blanket as she extended her hand to my body. Her face was frowned with a dubious expression written over her face.

"He did. He offered it to me as it was freezing." I sighed deeply and asked, "Is there a problem?"

"A problem?" she asked, grinning. "Did I say there is ma'am? I have absolutely no issues with that. I asked only because I gave the blanket to him during our honeymoon."

Pain churned in my stomach. I was so disgusted by the blanket that it was nearly hard to look at it without feeling repelled. That brought up memories of being rejected and not having the chance to say farewell to anyone. I removed the blanket from my body and returned it to Annie in a slow motion.

"Sorry I was unaware, you can have it."

I said in a humiliating tone. That was something I didn't want to hang onto for even a minute longer.

With a smile, Annie said, "It's okay, Ava. I just wanted to know if maybe you had one similar to mine." She then extended her arm to me.

"I don't want to keep something so intimate," I added, reaching back to her with the blanket.

It seemed really odd to me that Annie showed concern. Even though we didn't express it to one another, Annie was aware that I had been Rae's true love and that we both desired to be together. If it were any other woman, she would be furious and outraged to witness the alpha's ex-mate so near to him after such a long period of time.

Collecting the blanket, Annie continued to smile and said, "Did you find any clues regarding the disappearance of your kids? I'm impressed by my husband's kindness and willingness to assist you."

"They're also Rae's kids," I quickly retorted.

Almost immediately, Annie's smile vanished from her face. She looked at me, forcing herself to resist the urge to yell at me.

She asked, "Are you certain?" which almost made me lose my mind at what I was hearing. "It's possible that you became pregnant after leaving the pack but you believed Rae was the father of the children. It makes sense to be confused."

I couldn't believe Annie had the guts to ask those questions, so I turned to face the woman. I tightly closed my eyes, trying to avoid starting an argument just then.

"I'm not the kind of woman who goes around frolicking with any man I meet especially humans, so yes, I'm quite certain." I remarked in annoyance.

"I apologize for offending you," she said with another sarcastic grin. This talk seemed to be going on for too long.

"We ladies are prone to confusion, aren't they? That is nothing to be embarrassed of."

I cleared my throat, ready to go all out. "I know it may seem unpleasant for you to watch your husband strolling about with another woman, especially me, being his ex-mate, but what I detest a lot is being accused of misleading Rae. There's no point doing that."

"If I were in your shoes and the future alpha rejected me, I would be quite upset. You must have had a terrible experience." said Annie.

"Well, I'm not you, Annie." I got up, incredibly annoyed and impatient. I tried to control my actions and tightly closed my eyes once more. Annie's jealousy would be too much for me to handle — I already had to deal with Kyle's hostility. Opening my eyes, I saw Annie still standing in front of me, greeting me with a smile.

I was sickened by her hand on my shoulder as she said, "You don't have to be so mad at me, Ava. That's just what I think."

She scowled, "I don't remember asking for your opinion, and the quadruplets are only a concern for Rae and I."

She had to inhale deeply to hide her annoyance before she could say, "I have to disagree with you. I am his Luna, and everything involving Rae also involves me."

I swallowed half of the words that were trapped in my throat and chuckled.

"Well, if that's how you see it, why don't you ask him questions and not bother me?"

Just as I was about to leave Annie alone, I saw Rae walking toward the both of us. I watched Annie land a kiss on Rae's neck and plant a kiss on his lips.

I believed that the moon goddess was trying to test my strength because I was so close to crying at that awful scene.

Annie was humiliated when Rae shoved her away. He then returned his focus to me.

"Kyle will no longer be in charge of your security." I forced a grateful smile. "You will sleep in the building in the city center, and hunters will be stationed at the door."

"Will she remain here? Rae, she's no longer a part of this pack," Annie enquired, flushed. "The pack won't be happy if they witness her hanging around."

"Ava's life is in danger, regardless of whether she is a member of this pack or not," he said, glancing at the woman. "She can't be left to go about herself."

She bowed and added, "I just think her safety isn't our concern and you've never been the kind of leader who protects outsiders."

"Annie, don't you think we can talk about this later?" He turned to face his wife. "Also, I dislike being opposed, especially by my wife."

I on the other hand was embarrassed to see that dispute knowing fully well I was the main topic of discussion. And I was unable to even stand up for myself. As a result, I was aware that Annie didn't want me around and that she would do everything in her power to keep me away from Rae.

"Okay," she said, lifting her arm and glancing up at me. "Your choice always wins, doesn't it, my love?" she said.

I felt like a third wheel after she gave Rae another kiss. I cleared my throat because I was sick of seeing those scenes. What the hell was she trying to prove?

"Rae, can we go?" I enquired. "I have to get ready for tomorrow and I'm really tired."

"Let's go," he commanded.

I rolled my eyes in frustration as Annie added, "I can take her to the building, love. Besides, we females are better at making beds than you males are. I'll look after Ava while you return home and relax." Annie murmured, her eyes glimmering.
