CHAPTER 9. TRAP OR TRIAL

1218 Words
Ava "They were taken by humans." Jay uttered those words and I believe he thought he wouldn't be able to carry on as Rae grabbed him by the collar, preparing to throw him against the wall. Rae didn't mince words when he demanded a response. "Young man, I'm aware of all that! Hit the nail and stop bashing tr*sh." Jay drew a long breath and continued, "They were hired by werewolves who are definitely your enemies and they're close to you." Rae released him. "I find this story quite strange and you're not helping in any way," he said, appearing more irritated now. "Except for Ava, no one knew the quadruplets were my children." "Ava was also supposed to be killed, so you would never find out about the boys, and some people knew." Rae's eyes widened in amazement as the worry from his face vanished in a blink. He expected more. Fearing that he would do something stupid, I ran to Rae when he yelled, "I want names." Jay's eyes widened in shock and terror as Rae choked him, using all of his effort to clutch his neck. "I don't know the names," Jay said. "Please Rae, let go of him. Jay gave us more details than we anticipated." "Can you not act so stupid now, Ava?" Abruptly, his fury shifted to me since I appeared to have more faith in a stranger than in him. He might destroy the man in a matter of seconds because of his immense rage. He threw Jay to the ground without showing any pity and walked away. Rae tightened his hands, remembering how I had once trusted him so profoundly with everything I had, with my life. Had I failed to remember that he had saved my life? I seemed to have forgotten that he had saved me from the tyranny of my uncle and aunt and restored my dignity — I now trusted a complete stranger more than the man who had once loved me. It hurt him badly but he would never show it. "I can find my kids without the help of stupid informants." He was unable to focus because of his anger. "Until I confirm that Jay's information is accurate, he will remain in jail. Otherwise, he will die." Jay was left behind as Rae took hold of my arm and pulled me from the old mansion. Kyle was waiting for us when we got to the main building, but when he saw me standing with Rae, his facial expression darkened. Kyle, being the closest person to Rae, was prepared to go to any extent to get his way. He was concentrating on me at that same moment, as I looked at him fearlessly. "Why the f*ck is she still here?" Kyle asked, feeling irritated by my presence for reasons I don't even know. With an angry expression, Rae turned to face him. "Kyle, I gave you an order," Rae yelled angrily. "Will you follow my instructions or will you keep asking stupid questions?" Kyle was now too embarrassed to carry on the conversation. "Ava stopped being a member of this pack the moment she was rejected and decided to flee like a coward. She has absolutely no reason to be here." He retorted. "Allow me to worry about that, Kyle. Do as I have ordered." Rae replied. Kyle instantly realized that things weren't always like that. They had difficulties of their own, not only his, and Rae had long since stopped listening to his advice. That was the second time that day that Kyle had felt humiliated so quickly. Rae was protecting me, but he didn't see why. Kyle was so close to killing me that instant. The worthless she wolf was an eyesore to him. "Yes Alpha," he answered, retreating. "But in order for me to help you more effectively, I would like you to explain what is going on." "Kyle, don't worry. You'll find out." Kyle took one last look at Rae, his breathing heavy, and left the room to follow orders. I wanted to ask why Kyle detested me so much when I was alone with Rae again, but I knew there wasn't time for that. The quads' chances of surviving decreased with the passage of time. I sat down, irritated, and said, "You need to stop dragging me around town like I'm an object." "And you must cease meddling where it is not necessary." Rae snapped, turning around to face me. "Why the hell did you even arrest the only person who has any information?" "We're heading to the house you used to live in," he gave the order. "I need to inspect the house personally, see what I can find." Going back would be too dangerous, particularly after a murder had occurred in my home. I must be the main suspect in Leila's murder, and the cops are hunting me. Should I be afraid, or not? "Ava, are you scared?" Rae could feel my panic. "Your wolf has been asleep for so long, you may have even believed she has vanished. That's what you get for fleeing your home. Away from your own kind." Just as I opened my mouth to reply, Rae grabbed my hand again and dragged me away. "Where the f*ck are you taking me now, Rae?" I asked as he dragged me into the forest roughly. My resistance was making things tough for him, so he grabbed me and hung me upside down over his shoulders. I was trying to get free of his hold when he stated, "I'm taking you to my house." We eventually reached a workshop smack dab in the middle of the forest. It was a remote, desolate area that was only visited by werewolves, yet Rae's presence terrified everyone there. My backside ached from the hit as he dropped me hard to the ground. When I raised my head to confront him, Rae was gone. A bunch of bikers passed Rae as he entered the workshop, and I watched, still enraged, as I fought to get up and felt the ache in my body. I followed his trail under the hungry gazes of strange beings. The owner of the workshop waved and then cleaned his dirty hands. "Alpha Rae." Rae refused to shake hands with people. He disregarded the man's civility and kept a wary eye on every crevice of the ancient workshop. "Is my car ready?" he inquired, as the man withdrew his hand feeling small. "There are a few tweaks remaining to do, Alpha." "That's not important. I need it now." Rae didn't say much most of the time. He liked things to be simple and fast, and he would reprimand anyone who disregarded his instructions or took longer than required. The man lowered his head, took the keys out of the drawer, and gave them to Rae with shaking hands. I watched from the door of the workshop. Rae then turned to leave as though the man had never been there. I attempted to follow him once more when a man blocked our way. "Well, well, well. If we aren't so blessed with the presence of the Alpha king," Emmy said, appearing to ridicule Rae without any concern. "Why the f*ck are you in my territory, Emmy?”
