CHAPTER 7. SECOND PLAN

Ava She peered into his eyes and walked furiously towards him when she discovered he was sitting in the same spot. "What brought that b***h back?" She growled at her brother, her heart thumping uncomfortably. "Sorry about all this, Annie." With his hands extended in front of him, Kyle stood up while observing his sister. "When you first removed her from the pack, you ought to have been more efficient." With her eyes closed, her jaw tightened, Annie battled to stop her wolf from tearing apart her own brother. "You're just too submissive and docile, Kyle." "You need to calm down and watch what you're blurting out of that mouth of yours, Annie," he growled. "There's no point in moping about what went wrong anymore." "You want me to calm down when Rae is about to leave the pack and pursue the quadruplets with that b***h, Ava? Everything I have is literally at risk." His eyes grew wide as he asked, "So, he knows the children are his? I ought to have killed that b***h completely when I had the opportunity." "Like seriously, Kyle? It surprises me that you regret what went wrong while also agreeing with me on things for once in your life." "I apologize if I let you down. She definitely won't make it through this time," Kyle said, clenching his jaw. Annie couldn't control her anger. "It's too late. It's risky at this point. A decoy that will keep Ava away from Rae without drawing suspicion needs to be devised." A little taken aback by Annie's behavior, Kyle laughed. What the hell was she getting at? With a sinister grin, she said, "We need a second plan. Think of something and make sure you do everything right this time." "A second plan? Are you sure of this?" Kyle found it hard to believe. Though he had a plan but he always believed the idea was absurd, he didn't think he would have to carry it out. She glanced at Kyle in desperation and said, "Just do as I ordered, Kyle," struggling with her mixed feelings. "Do what you can now, before it's too late," she continued. Annie moved to the window, her eyes scanning the streets below until they landed on Ava standing alone outside her childhood home. A slow smile crept across her face. The second plan was already forming clearly in her mind. I stood outside the building behind the cover of a tree and watched the activities happening in the streets of the city while I waited for Rae. I saw glimpses of my early years. What had become of Aunt Aurelia and her husband, I wonder? Whether they had paid the price for all the evil they had done, or if they were still alive. I was getting impatient and decided to explore the pack's surroundings on my own. Whenever I walked around the streets, everyone would turn to stare at me. There were murmurs and mocking laughter. The pack still considered me a repulsive waste among them, and they hadn't forgotten that I, Ava, had run away after being rejected. I arrived at the former residence where my parents and I had lived. It looked like it had been abandoned. I felt a surge of unhappiness come over me. I went down a long corridor under the porch. Though in some places the rotting wood slid, that wasn't what attracted my eye. An old toy was on the ground. I was suddenly tempted to pick it up, but I refrained. After my parents passed away, the house had been vacant for several years and no one had the courage to even venture in. It was said that the house was cursed and that the echoes of the former owners' screams could still be heard in the vacant chambers. I returned my focus to the house. I was lost in my memories when I felt someone was coming, and just as I was about to flee, a hand pulled me. A powerful urge to break away surged through my chest. I wanted to scream, but the invader turned to face me and whispered, "I come in peace, I mean no harm, Ava," as if he could read my mind. "I'd like to speak with you." He let go of my arms and stepped back, exposing more of his physical appearance. His black hair gleamed in the sunlight, and he was dressed in a white t-shirt. In my entire life, I have never seen this man. I was afraid when I met his eyes. What if he was here to abduct me, and was responsible for the abduction of the quads? I retreated a step, then another, till my back hit the wall and I felt cornered. "Who are you?" I asked, my voice coming out in a whisper.
