When I woke up the next morning, my heart was hammering in my chest. The front door slamming open and closed startled me. At least, I thought it was morning. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was well into the afternoon. Sunlight was creeping through the blackout shades. As I started waking up, I heard arguing. “What were you thinking?" James snapped. “You look like you haven't fed in weeks!" “It couldn't wait," a deep, gravelly voice murmured quietly. That familiar voice sent my heart thundering against my breastbone. I had almost forgotten what he sounded like. “Are you okay, Jessica?" “I'm tougher than I look. You though. You look like sh*t," I heard Jessica say.
