Chapter 9 A scratching at the door woke Zach the next morning. He opened his eyes, knowing Lavender summoned them for her needs. With a reluctant sigh, he disentangled himself from Thor, quietly stepped out of the room, and carefully shut the door behind him. Lavender stared at him and mewed. “I know. I know. You’re hungry.” Zach made quick work to fill the bowl he’d borrowed from the cupboard and placed on the floor. Idly, he noticed a lock of the hula doll’s hair lying next to it. “You’re a mess.” Lavender slowly flicked her tail as if agreeing with his assessment.
