Jessica denied any knowledge of the marriage proposal or how the bottle of shrimp paste could have been located in her garage, which was always kept securely locked. When asked if she had caused her husband’s death, she was the perfect grief-stricken widow, with just the correct mixture of sadness at his demise and outrage over the charge of murder. The measured coldness that Matthew had observed earlier in the interview room had vanished, and a polished performer was now on display.
