Chapter Forty
During the luncheon adjournment, as their client was still being cross-examined, Matthew and Oscar could not discuss with her the evidence she had given. When everyone settled in the interviewing room after she had finished her evidence, Oscar eventually broke the silence in his usual diplomatic tone.
‘Do you recall, my dear, at an earlier conference we asked whether you had ever seen the bottle of shrimp paste or knew anything about it, you replied in negative terms? In cross-examination, you admit that you probably analysed it when employed with the firm that manufactured it. I have to say that I am completely dumbfounded.
