Chapter Twenty-six
The first conference at the barrister’s chambers with Jessica Vandermeer took place a few days after Tomlinson’s murder, and Matthew had not been able to shrug off the shock over his death, nor his despair over Angelo’s defence. Willing himself to put these issues aside, he waited in the reception area of Oscar’s chambers before greeting his client. When Oscar scurried out of his chambers, Matthew took the opportunity to re-introduce Jessica to him. Jessica Vandermeer looked to Matthew like she was out for a day’s shopping at her favourite department store. Wearing an expensive looking powder-blue suit, together with matching pearl earrings and necklace, she appeared not to have a care in the world.
