Chapter Thirteen It was a small item on page two of the Sydney Morning Herald, but the news hit Matthew like a physical blow. The paper reported that Detective Sergeant Angelo Cattani of the drug squad was granted bail on charges of both possession and supply of a commercial quantity of drugs that had been located in the locked boot of his car. The report was only a few lines in length, finishing with his suspension without pay, pending conclusion of the charges. Matthew’s arrest and charge on a trumped-up allegation a decade ago meant he knew the mental trauma that Angelo would now face. As he contemplated the best course of action, Lena’s head appeared around the corner of his office door. ‘What’s up?’ Lena asked. ‘I heard a terrible groan and thought you’d suffered a heart attack.’
