Chapter Fifty-one Inspector Mike Gordon’s stony-faced glare, together with his silence, did not set a favourable tone as Matthew sat opposite him at a small Greek coffee shop that the head of lnternal Affairs had selected. Matthew had phoned his private number late at lunchtime to arrange the meeting that afternoon. ‘I’m all out of favours,’ Gordon announced, ‘and I’ve stuck my neck out too far already.’ Matthew gave a soulful look but did not reply. ‘I’m sorry for Angelo,’ he continued, ‘but ruining my career won’t help him.
