Chapter Sixty-one
In an attempt to dispel the gloom that had spread over the defence team, Matthew suggested a return trip to Leichhardt for dinner at the same restaurant where they’d had lunch after the committal proceedings. He was hopeful that the rustic Italian food and homespun bonhomie of the proprietors might revive the spirits of their group, but even Oscar was unusually sombre throughout the meal. It was Rose Cattani who made small talk and encouraged the three lawyers in an attempt to brighten the mood.
