Chapter Thirty Jessica Vandermeer’s trial for the murder of her husband commenced in the same Supreme Court building where the earlier mention had taken place, some six weeks ago. It was austere and grey, with little architectural merit to commend it. Obviously, functionality had been foremost in the government architect’s mind. Bleak House was the name Matthew appropriated from Dickens when he entered the tall, box-like concrete structure.
