Chapter Thirty-two
Purely formal witnesses, totally boring to the members of the jury but essential for the prosecution to prove the necessary elements of the charge, took up the remainder of the day. They dealt mostly with corroboration of Detective Sergeant Brooks in relation to execution of the search warrant and the discovery of the bottle in the accused’s garage.
The court finally adjourned shortly after 4 pm, and Oscar, Matthew, Lena and their client returned to the interview room.
‘Looks like Matthew’s information about the insurance policy has got the attention of the jury,’ Oscar said, throwing his wig onto the small table before collapsing into a nearby chair.
‘We’ll have to shout Emma dinner at some posh restaurant,’ Matthew replied. ‘If we’re successful, that is.’
