Chapter Eighteen
Matthew had arranged the conference with Jessica Vandermeer for 10 am the following day, and she arrived by taxi a few minutes early.
‘Good to see you, Jessica,’ Matthew said as he walked into the waiting room. ‘Lena is waiting for us in her office. It’s a little more organised than mine.’
After they had settled in, Matthew gave Jessica a copy of the prosecution brief.
‘Take your time, there’s no hurry,’ Matthew said as she commenced reading. He had deliberately wanted to watch her as she took in the contents. But, from beginning to end, she displayed not a flicker of emotion.
‘Much the same as we’ve been reading for weeks in the gossip columns and magazines,’ Jessica said with a nonchalant shrug after she finished reading. ‘Nothing new there.’
