Chapter Twenty
Inspector Mike Gordon was the head of Internal Affairs and Matthew had met him ten years ago when Franz Mannheim and Sergeant Harry Emerson were part of the conspiracy to send Matthew to gaol. Gordon had assisted in their conviction and Matthew believed that Gordon was both honest and intelligent; qualities he knew were not shared by all of the force.
Matthew had rung him to arrange a talk, but the inspector had refused to speak to him unless it was at police headquarters. Matthew duly arrived at the appointed time, but Gordon was wary of the solicitor and had adopted a formal tone.
