Chapter Four

1516 Words
"This is so lame!" I said throwing the game console on the sofa behind me. I was playing video games with David. He'd taught me how to go about it several times, but I just couldn't get it, and now I've lost to him five times in a roll, so I got frustrated. "No, it isn't," he laughed. "You're too competitive, you can't just give me a chance to win." "I gave you a lot of chances, you threw them all away!" "Whatever, I'm not playing anymore, I quit!" "So I win then," "I don't care." "You can't run from your problems all the time, sometimes you've got to face it," he said, crawling towards me. "Are you mad?" He said after noticing the angry look I bore. "Okay, let's play again, I'll let you win." "I'm not interested." He moved closer to me and gave me a peck on my lips. I didn't react and just sat still, he did it again and again, and I couldn't help but smile. "See, you look prettier when you smile." "But you'll let me win when we play next," he nodded. "Promise," I stuck out my pinky. "You've got to stop doing this, it's so childish," he chuckled, sticking his out too, and we pinky promised. "Oh, I'm so bored, what else should we do?" I asked, stretching. "We don't have to do anything," he said, laying his head on my laps. I smiled down at him as he closed his eyes. This man is just so perfect. His perfect long eyelashes, his nose-a tiny mole on its bridge-and God, those lips-that get me fantasizing every time. "Don't bore a hole into my face," he said, still closing his eyes. "I can't help it, you're just too good looking for your own good." "Exactly, so why don't you move in so you can have a more satisfactory look at this face?" His eyes flickered open. "David? We've talked about this." He wanted to speak, but I stopped him. "Don't speak any further, forget it. It's a done deal, I've made up my mind." "But I really don't get why, you know, Aubrey," he sat up. "Having you around won't help me focus on my personal work, I'll need some alone time to myself and also a few personal reasons." "How will having me around not help you focus?" he smirked. "Also, I promised to give you time whenever you need it, there's enough space here." "David..." "Come on, Aubrey, Won't you love for us to come home together, to each other, having breakfast together? It's going to be amazing, love." "I love it too, but I'm standing by my decision. Besides, we're practically living together already, we sleep at each other's often, so what more?" "Staying together permanently. I just want to see you all the time." "Look, it doesn't look like you can give me the space I want after all," I chuckled. His eyes widened dramatically, as if realizing he shouldn't have said what he'd just said. "Just know that if you ever change your mind, you're always welcome," he held my hands and smiled. His eyes lost in his own smile. Those eyes I fell in love with. He had this very pretty eye-smile that I find really adorable. He let his head fall back to my laps, and as if he remembered something, he sprung up almost immediately, startling me. "What, what is it?" I asked worried. He turned to me, narrowed his eyes, and started turning his head from left to right with his eyes still fixed on me, as if trying to detect something. "Who's that guy?" he finally asked. "What guy?" I answered clueless to whatever he was asking. "That asshole asking crazy questions, trying to make things difficult for you at the program we had a few days ago, I've been wanting to ask, but it kept skipping my mind." "Oh, Mr. Smiley," I said, recalling. "Mr. Smiley?" "Yeah, that jerk smiled a lot it gave me the chills." "He even gets a nickname from you?" David exclaimed. "Relax, it's not that deep." "Not that deep? You don't even call me any other name apart from David," he whined. "Isn't that your name?" I asked, laughing, surprised by his childish protest. "I want a nickname too." "Alright, I'll work on that. Happy?" "Yes, I want it as soon as possible too. So who is he?" "I don't even know his name, I saw him going into the hall before the program began, I only greeted him, nothing more. I didn't know why he chose to mess with me. He even tried to engage me in a conversation at the dinner, but I didn't give him an audience," I explained. "Why is he trying to make advances at my woman? Did you tell him you had a boyfriend?" "Why would I do that? The situation didn't warrant it." "You should have. Aren't you proud of me?" He asked with a serious face. "What? Of course I am," I laughed. "Then why didn't you tell him?" "I just can't announce it like that, something has to come up first." "When next I see him, I'm going to tell him myself." "What, you're just going to walk up to him and yell it in his face?" "Yes, you think I can't." "No, of course you can do it, but just so you know, there's this fierce and tough-looking lady always by his side, maybe his bodyguard." "It looks like she's taken lessons in Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, boxing, wrestling, probably a trained ninja, learned Kenjutsu, and all other possible forms of fighting you know. Her muscles were well defined even from the suit she was wearing. I'm just saying so you'll know whom you are planning to go face." He twitched his eye and turned his neck in an 'oh s**t' way. "Well, am I supposed to be intimidated by that?" "Definitely not, my love, go and conquer, victory is ours," I said, gesturing with my hands. "Wanna see me alive? You really shouldn't be putting me up for that," he burst out laughing. "I thought you were bold enough." "I am, but I don't want my bones broken by a woman. I'll carry the embarrassment with me for the rest of my life." I frowned. "Why can't a man have his bones broken by a woman?" "I didn't say a man, I said me, me!" "Yeah, why can't a woman break your bones?" "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it in the direction you're taking it. I just don't want to live with a severed limb, Aubrey, I'd rather be whole," He said, pursing his lips. I laughed. David dislikes arguments, so once he discovers he's losing, he just gives up. "How's work? Come to think of it, we barely talk to each other about our offices." "Yeah...that's true. Well, work's fine, and I have no issues. How's your own place?" "It's just work too, nothing special. Speaking of work, I've not been thinking, it's just an idea that struck me now. Should we make our relationship public?" I raised my eyebrow. "All of a sudden? Why? Is someone bothering you?" "No, I'm just saying it's totally fine by me, in fact, it's more peaceful." "That woman I'm always seeing with you anytime we meet," I paused, "Is she making advances at you?" I asked. David panicked, his eyes widened, and he quickly covered my mouth with his hands as if someone were eavesdropping. Realizing we were alone, he took his hands off. "Jesus, Aubrey, how can you say that?" "Why react like that?" "Because it's inappropriate and even very impossible. She's just my secretary, nothing more, nothing less. "Nothing less?" "Come on, Aubrey, you know what I mean." "Well, I don't, and if I ever discover that's true, I walk straight to your office and pluck out all her teeth with the nail of my middle finger." "Hey! That's brutal." David exclaimed. "Wait till I discover it's true. You'll see brutality in action then." "Don't you trust me? I'll never do such a thing, alright?" My face flushed. "Make sure to tell me if it ever happens, ok?" "It never will, but ok, we good?" I nodded. "Wow, jealous Aubrey could take a wild turn." "Try me," I said, showing him my fists. He just laughed and lay back down. "So, have you come up with a nickname?" he asked. "Still thinking," I answered, knowing clearly well I haven't been thinking at all. "I want one as soon as possible, I bet you didn't even think about 'Mr. Smiley' before you gave him. "That's because it's what he kept doing." "So there's nothing I keep doing or something I remind you of?" "Um... Mr. Jealousy?" "No, I don't want anything similar to him, just a name, I don't want a 'Mr.'." "Sweetie pie, peanut, muff--" "Those are so lame, something more advanced?" "Sunshine? That's cool and lovely." "Sunshine?" He smiled as he seemed to love it. "So you're my sunshine?" "Forever yours babe."
