The reception hall dazzled with luxury. The chandeliers and the whole decoration looked so elegant and breathtaking.
The revelation of Austin’s identity as the CEO of those enterprises came as a shock to everyone. Austin never wanted to be known as now the richest man in the world, but his father couldn't hold his excitement.
He had always been far away and busy with his businesses. He never cared about being famous or known for his wealth.
He also never cared about settling down until his father gave him an ultimatum to get married. Austin's father has been sick, and only the family members of Russel knew about it.
Mr. Russel knew that his time was near, and he didn't want to pass away without seeing his son running his enterprise and settling down with a woman.
The bride and the groom got into the SUV. Ava sat on her chair, her eyes flickering as she stared out the window watching the city. She knew that she had totally gotten married to a stranger.
Everyone thought Austin was a loser, and all he did was enjoy his father’s wealth overseas with women. Now that everybody knows his true identity, Ava feels like she married a complete stranger, and her life will be doomed forever.
A man who hides his identity, who just decided to get married to a woman he has never met and has always been in the dark. She wasn't expecting this marriage to be better. Rather, she expects it to be worse.
Austin sat across from her. His grey eyes, which softened during the reception, were now distant and unreadable. He hadn't said a word since they left the hall.
Ava’s finger tightened. His silence scared her, but what scared her more was if she was sure that her father would pay for her mother’s treatment as he had promised.
The car pulled into the mansion and came to a stop. Austin hurriedly stepped out without a word and turned to the other side of the car. “Let’s go,” he said.
Ava stepped out; her heels clicked on the ground, and her heart raced. They both walked into the house, and the mirrored windows reflected their figures.
She was so tense and confused. At that moment, she realised that the marriage was real and now she had left her father’s house to be with another man. Austin's cold demeanour made her feel worse about it.
The mansion was a masterpiece of luxury. From the floor to the furniture and the ceiling. Everything in the house screamed wealth.
She followed Austin up the staircase as he led. Her eyes were roaming around the mansion in awe.
‘This mansion is so beautiful. It is the most beautiful mansion I have ever been in. My father’s mansion is nothing compared to this’
They walked to the hallway, and Austin turned to Ava. “Your room is down that hall,” he said without looking at her. “Second door on the left.”
Ava turned to him, “That’s it?” she asked. “We’re married. Austin. You don't get to be unfriendly and treat me like a guest you are tolerating.” she said, stepping closer to him.
Austin turned to her, his cold grey eyes locking onto hers. “Let’s be clear, Ava. This marriage is nothing but something we were both forced to do because of one reason or another. I don't care about you, and you don't care about me. Do your duty and stay out of my way. We will both be fine.” His gaze narrowed.
Ava inhaled deeply, her mother’s dying face flashing in her mind, and tears gradually formed in her eyes.
“You think I wanted this? I'm here because I was forced. I need to sacrifice my happiness, so don’t lecture me about duty while you've been hiding behind your empires.” she said, holding back her tears.
Austin clenched his jaw. He was surprised to see Ava speak. “Then we understand each other. Stay in your lane and we won’t have problems.” he said and walked towards a glass-walled study.
He turned to Ava one more time. “It's late; get some rest. We will be going on a trip tomorrow,” he said and walked in, shutting the door behind him.
Ava stood frozen and sighed. The words “replacement bride” kept echoing in her head. Her family sold her out before they could help her.
“I am enough. As long as my mother gets better. They will all regret this and pay dearly. Camila, Blake, and my father will regret this. And Austin... I will survive him too.”
