If your answers to ANY of the above questions is YES, then look no further. SITUATION REPORT As we all know, the current state of unemployment is at an all time high. Many people, young or otherwise, are frustrated by the lack of any source of income. A lot of people that were once gainfully employed have lost their jobs, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Organizations that were able to survive the global crisis ended up downsizing, rendering more people jobless. Others that have joined the entrepreneurship train are also being frustrated by the challenges facing businesses in Nigeria. Crime among youths has also gone through the roof. Kidnapping is now rife in Nigeria, and in most cases, our youths turn out to be the perpetrators. An idle mind is the devil's workshop, goes the saying. Case in point the EndSars protest. The situation is desperate, and it definitely calls for desperate measures. What I have to offer is one of the solutions to unemployment among our youths in Nigeria. It is an opportunity that is simple to understand and not so difficult to implement. The return on investment is worthwhile. Before I dive into the type of business and how to go about it, I will like to make an illustration of an employee/entrepreneur scenario for a clearer picture and at the same time, an attempt at initiating a paradigm shift in the mindset of our unemployed youths. There is a need for this because our generation of youths have been institutionalized into the go-to-school-and-graduate-to-get-a-job rat race. Everyone wants to graduate and apply for a job. Well guess what, there are no more jobs. The job market has been saturated, and it's now survival of the fittest. Imagine as an applicant, you got a call for an interview in a prestigious marketing firm, XYZ Ltd. After a successful interview session, you were told that XYZ Ltd has two types of offer letters for you, and they want you to choose. The first offer states that you will be employed as a marketing staff, with a FIXED monthly salary of N50,000, and a monthly target of selling 100 units of their products. Each product sells for N25,000. The other offer states that XYZ Ltd will not pay you any salaries, but they will give you the products at N20,000 each for you to sell at N25,000 and make a N5,000 margin per product. If you sell 20 units monthly, you will make N100,000 per month. What will be your preferred choice? I know most people will take the first offer, since it GUARANTEES a fixed monthly salary. But quite obviously, the second offer is the best because it ensures REWARD commensurate to EFFORT. What we need is a paradigm shift. UNDERSTAND THIS A job with a fixed salary does not reflect the true efforts put in by an employee. On the other hand, if it's a business, the result or reward or income is directly proportional to the effort you put into it. The harder you work, the more customers you have. The more sales or deliveries you make, the more income you generate for your business.
