Asher turned at the sound of a familiar voice. "You didn't get here in time."
Sofia stood beside him quite closely, as if it was just a natural thing. With a smile gracing her lips, she explained, "A small traffic delay. But fortunately, I'm not late yet."
Asher raised his eyebrows and smiled nonchalantly. "You haven't been back for so long. Let me introduce you around."
Sofia brightened, grateful for his thoughtfulness, and nodded. "Of course. Asher, you're so thoughtful."
Eleanor followed behind them, her nails digging deep into her palms.
After they greeted a few guests, Asher's half-brother, Clyde, came towards them.
Despite his good-looking face, his gloomy vibe, especially his sinister smile, was more unsettling than warm, like the flicker of a snake's tongue around one's neck before a strike.
Clyde stared at Sofia and said, "Sofia, it's been a while. You are as pretty as ever."
Sofia returned a polite smile, with a hint of disdain in her eyes. "Mr. Anderson, you're no different from before."
Clyde laughed heartily. "Really? I look forward to working with you in the future."
Sofia nodded perfunctorily.
Turning to Asher, Clyde adopted the tone of an elder brother and pretended to persuade Asher, "Dad has been talking about you recently. Just go home sometime."
Asher sneered, "This is none of your concern."
Clyde's eyes darkened quickly, his smile freezing.
Just at this time, a man walked towards them. It was Sebastian Hunter, heir to a leading company in the building materials industry, known for his extremely lustful taste and terrible character.
"Mr. Clyde Anderson, Mr. Asher Anderson, and Ms. York. What a pleasure."
Clyde nodded and said, "Hello, Mr. Hunter."
Sebastian exchanged a few pleasantries with them and finally fixed his gaze on Eleanor, who was behind Asher, a touch of surprise crossing his lustful eyes.
"Mr. Asher Anderson, who is this?" he asked Asher.
"She's my secretary," he answered.
Sebastian's face beamed immediately. He rubbed his hands, his eagerness palpable as he suggested, "The people around Mr. Asher Anderson are all good-looking. Mr. Asher Anderson, I'm wondering if I can borrow her for a while."
Eleanor's face turned pale instantly.
Some secretaries were regarded as playthings in the upper-class circles, expected to entertain at the behest of others.
The rule was especially true for a lecher like Sebastian. None of his secretaries could get away with such fate.
Therefore, he naturally treated Eleanor as a toy, just another of Asher's female subordinates, a mare secretary. Sebastian didn't see a problem with fooling around with her.
Hearing Sebastian's words, Asher sneered.
Seeing his expression, Clyde said, "It's just a woman. Asher wouldn't mind."
Sofia didn't like Eleanor either, thinking the latter knew the best how to seduce men and wishing to be rid of her competition.
Therefore, she chimed in, "Yeah. Asher, we're going to be partners with Mr. Hunter."
Sofia hinted that accommodating Sebastian's desires could pave the way for a beneficial partnership.
Sebastian immediately echoed, "Absolutely, I'm seeking collaboration with Mr. Asher Anderson."
Asher glanced at Eleanor, who was lowering her head. He chuckled after a brief pause, "Mr. Hunter is right. She's just a secretary."
Asher agreed.
Eleanor bit her lip tightly, struggling to suppress the tremors that threatened to overtake her.
