“Alpha.”
All the werewolves who saw him immediately stopped and bowed down their heads, showing their submission to him and also as a sign of respect.
Phoenix is currently walking through the hallway of the castle like pack house. It was designed as modern as it can be with a touch of elegance to show the wealth of the werewolf royalty. The main hallway’s floor is covered with a red carpet as various vases and other shiny ornaments can be seen decorating the sides of it. The whole place is being illuminated by expensive mini-chandeliers that are made up of colourful crystals. While the other side of the wall is full of the deceased Alphas’ portraits, the other side has big windows that let the natural lights come in freely.
Stopping at the second door before the end of the hall, the two warrior guards who stood there immediately opened the doors for him. The moment he stepped foot inside that room, everyone immediately went silent and stood up to greet him. Waving his hand dismissively, Phoenix sat at the end of the table and told the current reporter, who is the beta of another pack but is still under the royal family, continued what he was doing. He told Nocturne to tell everyone to start the meeting without him, as he was clearly going to be late because he had just come back from his mate’s house.
Remembering Helena’s face made Phoenix smile unconsciously as he played with his bottom lip. His adorable mate is so addicting, he misses her already. Oh, how much he wants to be at her house right now rather than to be here, being surrounded by Alphas and Betas in one table.
A kick from his shin made Phoenix snap out of his little daydream. Nocturne, who is sitting on his right, is glaring at him. He clearly noticed how the Alpha king’s mind was currently not there in that meeting with them. Phoenix kicked him back, but what he did not expect was for Nocturne to dodge his feet and so Phoenix’s feet hit the chair with force and knocked Nocturne over.
The whole room went silent and Phoenix was trying his best not to laugh as Nocturne sat on the floor with a shock look in his face. The omegas immediately rushed over to the Royal Beta, helping him up and replacing the now broken chair. With a deadly glare, Nocturne sat and looked at the reporter’s screen and started ignoring his stupid best friend.
“Continue.” Phoenix commanded with a serious voice, but the mischief in his eyes is clearly visible.
An hour later, everyone was so engrossed in sharing their ideas and suggestions regarding the issues that were being brought up and addressed, which was the purpose of the meeting. The werewolf community council is made up of the Alpha King, the royal Beta and the forty alphas under him. Phoenix made it so that everyone would be heard and could voice out their individual territory concern to him personally. In total, there are forty-one Alphas including him, who all have a territory of their own. The whole werewolf community resides in North America and, as the Alpha king, he owns the biggest area, which is the United States of America, and all of the Alphas are spread all throughout the continent.
The moment the meeting ended, everyone came to Phoenix and shook his hand. Having small talk and sucking up to him, which he’s now so used to ever since he was crowned. He was getting bored with the constant chatter and some shameless alphas even dared to mention their daughters to him as it was widely spread in the whole community that he had yet to find his mate. He was never once interested in marking someone who wasn’t his mate before, especially now that he had finally found his beautiful mate, Helena.
“Come see me at my office in five minutes.” Phoenix ordered his beta over the mind-link.
Wrapping up the useless chitchats, Phoenix made his way out of there and went to his office, which is located in the third floor of the castle, which is strictly exclusive to him only. No one is allowed to go to the third floor unless they get permission or an invite from the Alpha king, himself. But, of course, the royal beta is an exemption; he can come and go there as he pleases.
Entering his office, Phoenix immediately sat on the sofa and closed his eyes. Tired from the meeting and also from reining his wolf in, who was on edge the moment he left his mate’s house. It hadn’t even been a day, but he already missed her. It’s just pure torture on his part, as his instincts to mate is much stronger than any ordinary Alpha, but he needs to take it slow with Helena.
The opening of his office door signaled the arrival of his beta, who slumped himself on the opposite sofa almost immediately. Nocturne had been exhausted the past few days because of the meeting preparations and Phoenix’s absence.
“So what do you want to talk about?” Nocturne asked after he got comfortable lying down on the sofa.
The two of them usually act or talk to each other casually whenever there’s only the two of them. It can be tiring to always move and talk formally, each word coming out of their mouth should be well thought of and every action of their body is well calculated, as if there’s no room for mistakes.
“Like I told you when you came to see me, I found my mate.”
“And?” Nocturne asked dryly.
“What do you mean? You’re supposed to be happy for me.” Phoenix retorted sarcastically, his eyes snapping open at his best friend’s answer.
“I’m happy for you but not for her, the poor woman.”
“Shut up.” Phoenix chuckled, which earned a laugh from Nocturne.
“But for real, what is it about?”
The atmosphere immediately went from light to serious as the two of them sat straight. Phoenix immediately started to tell his beta about the ambush that happened to him a few days ago, right after he met his mate. He left his mate that morning to get her some breakfast, but then again he returned to an already empty room. Going out of the hotel, he immediately looked for her, but to his disappointment, she was already gone and, with all the humans around, it became hard for him to track her down. So he decided to just go home and look for her the next day, but as if it wasn’t his lucky day. Phoenix got attacked the moment he stepped foot at the location where he usually hunts alone. It was inside a forest that was used as a shortcut route to get to the castle fast, rogues swarmed and surrounded him. All of them attacked him at once. He was about to call reinforcement when he felt his mind-link being blocked and it was a weird feeling as if someone was watching him from a distance trying to prevent him from reaching anyone and so he had no choice but to fight alone. He’s so much faster and stronger than them, not to mention his wolf is the biggest size ever recorded in werewolf history, but rogues played dirty with him. Their nails were laced with silver and every scratch or wound he gets from them hurts ten times more and it doesn’t heal as fast as it should be.
After killing all the rogues, Phoenix’s white fur was full of blood stains, but instead of going home to the castle. He decided not to go there so as to avoid encountering more rogues on his way back. He was so tired that he can’t remember how he got into his mate’s garden and collapsed.
Phoenix also tells Nocturne how he thinks that the hunters have some involvement with the rogues based on the silver on their nails and that they should dig deeper as to why, which the latter immediately agree in a heartbeat.

“Hi.”
“F*ck!” Helena cussed as she dropped the keys on her front door when someone suddenly spoke behind her.
“I’m so sorry. I did not mean to startle you.” Phoenix guiltily said as he picked up the keys on the floor, handing them to his mate who looked ravishing so early in the morning. She’s dressed in a yellow off-shoulder sunny dress that hugs her breast and waist with a flowy design all the way down. Her hair was just down with a small cute pin on both sides of her head.
“I-It’s okay, I just did not see you when I went out.” Helena smiled, trying to hide her embarrassment.
The sight of him made her heart pound so fast, not because she got startled but because, as much as she didn’t want to admit it, she missed him. He was gone for four days and, for some reason, the very next day when he left, his house felt so empty. She didn’t want to admit to herself that she was missing his presence almost instantly, but now, she’s sure as heck that she did.
Phoenix looks so handsome as usual, wearing a simple white shirt, black square pants and Nike white rubber shoes. He’s so effortlessly handsome and there’s something about how he moves that makes him look so elegant.
“Are you heading to your flower shop?” Phoenix asked.
“Yes. How’d you know?” Helena’s eyebrows furrowed, which made him chuckle.
“You told me that you had a flower shop when we played twenty questions.”
“Oh.”
Helena’s face reddened at that. She totally forgot how she told him about her business and all other things about her, including her favorite color. Ugh.
“Did you also forget what we agreed upon before I left?”
“Of course, not. I told you that I'd let you work for me for a month,” Helena casually said as she quickly walked to her car.
The conversation that they had that day had just made her face redder. The way he told her that he wanted to date her and that she should take responsibility for him. She just wanted to hide herself. How can someone be so straight forward? She was about to tell him no and that it was too fast for her, but then, as if he could read her thoughts. He suddenly told her that they didn’t have to date immediately and that he could wait. He even went to apologize and that he only hoped that she'd let him stay by her side in which she just nodded her head. She didn’t want to be a hypocrite. She also wants to get to know him more, even though everything that he makes her feel is all new to her and can get scary sometimes, but she likes it. It makes her happy.
About him working for her, he was persistent. He wanted to stay by her side and also to repay her kindness through helping her out in her business for free. She did say yes to him working but she’d be paying him his wage. Phoenix knew he wouldn’t win against her and so he just gave up after seeing the determination in her eyes.
“See you at your shop, boss.” Phoenix teased her as she got inside her car, winking at her as he left.
Shaking her head with a smile on her face, she started her car and looked in her rear-view mirror to reverse her car when her jaw dropped.
“No way…” she muttered to herself.
She saw Phoenix walking near a black 007 H1 Hummer car and getting inside it. That man never once failed to blow her mind.
“Who are you exactly?”
