One of the caravan’s guards went down immediately, a bolt of flame punching through his chest before he could even raise his shield to defend himself. He hit the sand hard, no longer moving. Kade had no time for thought; his body moved on its own. He drew his sword and charged, his boots digging deep as he closed the distance to the nearest raider. The man turned toward him, his eyes widening in surprise just as Kade slammed into him shoulder-first and knocked him flat on his back.
