Selene’s POV
“I love you, Selene.”
The words shattered something in me.
My chest rose and fell in shallow jerks, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t even speak. I stared at Riven like I didn’t know him at all, because maybe I didn’t.
I opened my mouth, but before I could speak, loud footsteps came from behind.
Riven’s expression hardened instantly.
“They’ve found us,” he whispered.
I turned, but it was too late. I could hear them, Lord Valmort’s men running towards our direction.
“I’ll handle them,” Riven said, already backing away. “You run. I’ll find you.”
“I don’t care what happens to you,” I hissed. “Not anymore.”
He paused, pain in his eyes.
