Chapter 2: Rebirth

1461 Words
CLAIRE'S POV My eyes flew open to embrace the endless expanse before me. I was floating in a massive expanse of space. Nothing was there. No one was within my sight. All there was was darkness. Yes, I was dead. I knew that. I still remembered the look of satisfaction that was the face of that betrayer while he did the evil to me. Why? Why did he have to do something like that? I was carrying his own child. No matter how I thought about it, there was absolutely no answer coming to my head. I was totally lost in my confusion and pain. To crown it all, Laura, someone I had called my best friend, for a long time stabbed me in the back. My heart was aching. The fire in my belly had stopped because I had no flesh anymore. Roland, my mate, killed me with his own hands. The pain had left my belly but now in my soul. I was in anguish. I did nothing to deserve any of the treatment I got. I was there, drooling in my anguish as tears began to roll down my cheeks again. My soul was painted. The cry of my unborn child kept on ringing in my ears. It didn't even get the privilege to see the light of the world. It had not even formed entirely before being snuffed out. While I was in that state, light suddenly flashed so brightly a couple of feet before me. I looked. What was that? I had no idea. Light seemed to be shining at just one point. Then gradually, it began to vanish. Soon, the light was gone but someone was there. I looked properly. That was the most beautiful lady I had ever seen. She had a glowing face. “Claire,” she called out my name in a sweet and melodious voice. At that very moment, all my pains seemed to have vanished. I was in awe. Who was this lady? Her voice was sweet. “Who …who are you?” I managed to ask her. She smiled at me. “I expected as much from you, my daughter.” Her daughter? She looked nothing like my mother. So, who was she? “I am the moon goddess,” she said again. The statement sent chills down my throat. I was not praying to the moon goddess. I was standing before her. “The moon goddess,” I said. She nodded her head. “You are in the expanse of time, Claire.” The statement reminded me I was dead. My pains returned again and tears dropped from my eyes. “I..am dead,” I said in a sorrowful tone. “No, you are not,” she replied. I flashed my gaze at her. I wasn't dead. How was that possible? I had no body. “My mate…killed me,” I said. “He slit my throat.” She grinned at me. “That's true, Claire. However, it is what happens at this point that will decide your fate. Whether you will live or die, you have to decide now.” Of course, I would want to live. No one would want to remain dead. Besides, I had a wish to carry out vengeance on those that hurt me. “I want to live,” I replied. “But.. but I have been killed already.” “Your request for revenge has been granted,” she said to me. “You have three choices to make, Claire. It is either you are reborn in the past so you can correct the mistake or you are reborn in the future.” “What is the third one?” I managed to ask. “You will be reborn in this present timeline.” That sounded good enough to my ears. There was definitely no reason to want to be reborn in the future when I could be reborn now. The past? I had no reason to want to correct it. All I had in my heart was revenge. I wanted my revenge. “I want to be reborn now,” I said after giving it some thoughts. “Your request is granted. But then, you must know that there is a price to be paid.” A price? What price was she talking about? I was suddenly curious. “Price?” I asked with a load of confusion in my voice. “What price do I have to—” The next words could not make it out of my mouth. The moon goddess blew air from her mouth to me. And in that moment, I felt myself moving. Soon, my vision was blacked out completely. ★★★★★★ I lay on the bed, partly conscious. There was a heaviness I had in every part of my body. No matter how much I tried to get myself up, I just could not get my body up. I was dead. Roland cut my throat with his throat. No! Some other things happened. Slowly, my thoughts began to realign. The excitement of being pregnant …. The betrayal from the people I cared about…my death… meeting the moon goddess and the promise of rebirth… Everything was just flooding through my mind. And in a single surge of energy, I forced my eyelids open. When my eyes flew open, I found myself in a room that I had never seen in my life. Where was I? I had no idea what answer to give the question in my head. When I tried to move, I felt a strong bang in my head. It ached badly like it would fall off. “Argh,” I groaned as I held my head with both hands. Slowly, I crept out of the bed. Everything was strange. How did I get there? I had no idea. I carried myself sluggishly to the door and pulled it open. When I eventually found my way out of the building, I saw a face I had never seen before. A man was on the premises. On seeing me, he ran to me quickly with a look of excitement on his face. Then, he hugged me tightly. For that moment, the ache in my head disappeared completely. It was completely replaced by the look of confusion that was on my face. Who was this dude and why the heck was he hugging me? “Cecilia, you slept for too long,” he said. Cecilia? Who was he calling Cecilia? I looked around to see if there was some other person around. But there was none. That got me even more confused. “Who ..are you, please?” I asked him innocently. A puzzled look flashed on his face. “What sort of question is that? Of course, I'm your mate and the love of your life.” My mate .. nothing was making sense to me. What did he mean by that? “I.. think there is a mix-up somewhere, please. You have the wrong person.” He grabbed my hand. “Why are you being this way? You should be done packing by now. We are escaping the pack in a few minutes.” I pulled my hand away from his. Escape? What was going on? “Escape to where?” I asked. He c****d his hair in frustration. When he spoke, there was pure anxiety. “Alpha Zeus will send people here soon to recapture you. We should be on the run now. Celine, please don't be this way.” “I'm not Celine!” I stated plainly. “You have the wrong person. I'm leaving this place.” I had barely taken a few steps when I saw a fleet of cars coming. I stopped in my tracks. “They're here, Celine!” The stranger said to me in a sorrowful tone. What was this all about? I was genuinely confused. The cars came to a stop and hefty people jumped out. “That's the slave girl!!” One of them said loudly. “Get her!” Slave girl…. I was not a slave girl. Before I could understand what was going on, they hoisted me off the ground. “You have the wrong person!” I shouted. “Let me go! My name is Claire!” They didn't seem to be bothered about what I said. When I looked at the strange dude, he was on his knees crying. I was confused. But then, just before I got thrown into the car, I saw my own reflection on the body of the car. It was at that moment I realized it. My identity as Claire could be gone forever. I had been reborn in the body of a slave girl!!
