Everything was passing by in a blur, the buildings, the people, the cars, then the scenery shifted. More greens in the view, more trees, all blurry like splashes of watercolours melting into each other, fading away.
The trees grew higher as the city completely faded from view. Worry gnawed at the very depth of my soul, he just killed a person who seemed like a powerful being, and only God knew what he would do to me.
The only thing that was keeping me from thrashing against him, apart from his death grip on both my arms that halted me from the pain & it’s strength, was a little voice at the back of my head that said he wouldn’t kill me. That he needed me alive, why though, I didn’t have the slightest clue. So I settled on shutting my eyes tight and clamping my mouth shut.
I took a peek through my lashes and could barely see as the wind knocked my hair back and forth. But I could vaguely make out his sharp jawline and dark hair. His speed decreased coming to a full halt as he gently put me down.
With tears gathered in my eyes, I bit my lower lip as I tried to prevent it from shivering, I held his gaze defiantly even with the fear that spiked through my every being. While quietly staring at him I found myself looking at cold blue eyes, that held no remorse. He had a smirk plastered on his lips as he spoke, “You can hate or fear me all you want, but I was only enforcing the law.”
Knitted my brows together, I shook my head at him slightly.
The law my ass, since when was killing innocent people in cold blood called “enforcing the law”.
Oh, feisty aren’t we today? A voice rang through my head.
My eyes widened in response, as I scanned the area around us for another intruder, but the clearing was scarce.
Relax, I thought, since you obviously weren’t going to have a conversation with me out there, I might as well have a conversation with you in here. The voice spoke again as Mathias physically shrugged reinforcing what he just said...What he just said...he’s in my head. Oh. My. God.
Releasing my lower lip from between my teeth, I parted them in awe, and it was as if I lost complete control of my body. I shivered uncontrollably as I backed away from him as he slowly stalked towards me in hopes of escaping, but to no avail, my back pressed against a large tree & I found myself trapped.
Lowly I mumbled under my breath repeatedly, “You killed her.”
“Ah, so she speaks.” He said, rolling his eyes at me, “just so you know, and as I mentioned previously, the law of the quarter is that no witch shall perform magic unless ordered to do so, in case someone fails to abide this law he/she will be condemned to the death sentence. I am the condemner. She knew the rules and she broke them, plus I was hungry.”
I gagged in my mouth and couldn’t contain the vomit that crawled up my throat, letting it all fall to the ground as I knelt forward.
I heard a sigh before hearing footsteps crunch through the grass. “Come, come, now darling. It’s not that disgusting.” He said, trying to be sympathetic, but failing miserably as he extended a hand to me.
Tears welled in my eyes as I wiped my lips with the back of my hand and looked up at him. Sobs wracked my body and I tried to suppress them the best I could but it wasn’t working.
Mathias eyed me as if trying to see if I was faking, his eyes softened, and features relaxed as he looked at me sincerely, “Take my hand, love... I give you my word, I won’t be of harm to you. We’re just here to talk.”
Feeling a sort of comfort in his words, no matter how ‘too good to believe’ they were, I took his hand hesitantly.
“Atta girl,” he said softly, as he pulled me towards him closely, too close if you ask me, closer than I’ve ever been to anyone other than my family.
I let the tears fall onto my cheeks as I looked to the floor to hide my fear and despair.
“Alexandra...you’ve been searching your whole life, for freedom, and the truth of your existence. I can prove to you that I am your ally, not your foe. Just an ally with...a different diet. I can help you.” He said softly, as he wiped the tears streaking down my face.
“I-I need to think about it. J-Just please take me home. I don’t know where we are...”
Third Person.
Mathias sighed once more, not knowing why he’s grown so sympathetic and...soft. He was one of the most powerful and oldest vampires in the world. His entire family was vampire royalty. They made up the original vampire lineage.
His cousins, they were all original purebloods. What Alexandra didn’t know is why she was the type of witch he wanted in his family. She was the last of the Delvaux witches, the witches who bonded their blood to his father and uncles to turn them into vampires, with her by their side, they can do anything.
Her powers were laced with their blood and vice versa, which made her have the most powerful magic. The Rhys family made up the vampire council and it resided in New Orleans. This is also where Vampire court was located. Mathias needed Alexandra more than he showed, if she was on his side rather than one of his family members, it will make his word superior to theirs.
And that's what he wanted, he wanted to be powerful, to be strong, and to be feared.
He wanted to be the most superior creature to have ever walked the earth, and he was going to be that.
"Alright, I'll take you home, but on one condition..." He said, with a calm and composed tone.
Alexandra sniffled and looked at him with curious eyes waiting for him to continue.
"You have to invite me in your apartment for a drink..." He said with a small smile.
Something about the way he smiled didn't seem sincere.
She looked at him warily, but nonetheless nodded.
Mathias snaked his arms around her waist pressing her to his chest, making her face flush as she averted her gaze away from him.
He caught the colour in her cheeks and couldn't help but smile internally at her innocence. He heard her heartbeat pick up, and it really flattered him for some reason. He tightened his grip to see her reaction and her cheeks turned crimson. This time he couldn't contain himself and smirked at her cheekily, and that only resulted in flustering her even more.
Lifting her off the ground, she squeaked before he sped into the night as he headed towards her apartment.
