Chapter 17“Well, if it isn’t the president and the vice-president of the Deadbeat Club,” Phoenix Delgado said sourly, standing at the school gates with her hands on her hips. Eirian blinked with surprise, and hastily pushed a strand of bright red hair from their eyes. “Listen, Phoenix, we’re sorry about what happened at the party,” Poppy said in a bored voice. “No one planned any of that.” “Sure,” Phoenix sneered. “I guess we should all be so grateful that you have such great friends, and that your granddad can clean up any mess we get into it.” “It was Lilith’s party,” Eirian reminded her. Phoenix shot them a disapproving glare. “No one asked you, you’re just the new kid.” “Don’t talk to Eirian like that,” Poppy warned, her voice suddenly serious. The other girl raised an eyebrow.
