Chapter 2Nine o’clock wasn’t most people’s idea of early morning, but Jesse considered it a victory against his circadian rhythm, which skewed toward nocturnal. He’d spent the previous night unraveling a work issue. Once solved, he had celebrated his victory with a few hours of YouTube and spiked seltzers. But it was a new day, with never ending books to categorize. Time spent in fresh air and sunshine was required before work began. He shaded his eyes as he stood on the front porch and looked up at the clear sky. A series of stretches to limber up and a new podcast episode queued up on his phone, then he jogged down the stairs and headed out for a run. Jesse didn’t consider himself a serious athlete, but he did enjoy the endorphins from a short run. He had a few familiar three-mile loop
