CHAPTER ONE
Audrey was to meet up with her suitor, Ezra. Ezra picked out the location, all she had to do was meet him up at 7 pm.
Five minutes past seven, Ezra arrived at the location. It was the Varunz upscale restaurant. One of the fanciest in town. The interior decoration, the service, the cool sound of the soothing music that played in the room, the lighting, and the soft chatter of its people were fascinating. Indeed a romantic place for the first date.
Ezra got there and went straight to their table reservation but no one was there. Oh! How he wanted lateness. When he attended meetings late, it was termed classic but when someone else does, it was disrespectful and ill manners.
Ezra took his seat and decided to wait a little longer for his soon-to-be bride.
The clock was ticking and Audrey was nowhere to be found. Ezra was getting pissed. It wasn't in his nature to wait for anyone, especially not a woman.
He was on his second glass of wine when he saw Audrey approaching.
Ah! She was gorgeous. So beautiful that heads turn at the sight of her. She was wearing a black short lace dinner gown that showed off a little skin. Her shiny brown hair was parted at the center of her head, and the red lipstick on her full lips complimented her whole face.
She looked as gorgeous as ever.. Effortlessly beautiful just like the supermodel that she was. She approached their table and took a glance at Ezra who was quietly looking at her through the glass of wine on his lips. She took her seat.
Ezra With a cold and stern look trying to his cool looked at Audrey who didn't seem like she was going to apologize for anything soon and said to her.
"It's ill-mannered to keep people waiting for Ms Audrey. Perhaps there is something you want to say to me ."
Audrey gave an awkward look at him. Did he expect her to apologize? No way.
"Something I want to say to you? "Audrey scoffed softly, tucking her hair behind her ears.
"No one dared to keep me waiting, but you did. Isn't that interesting? "He asked her.
"You have quite an ego, Ezra. "
" I think It would amaze you to know that I owe you no apology whatsoever Ezra. I only came here for my father and nothing more. When I arrive or how I arrive is respectfully none of your business. "
"Now that you know you are getting nothing out of me, shall we dive into today's topic?" Audrey suggested.
Ezra was unusually quiet. Was he surprised? Of course, he was. He was taken away by how swiftly Audrey was able to talk aback. This wasn't his first time meeting her. He had only met her once before the date and they didn't even talk together.
Just a glance at each at the governor's inauguration. Her beauty caught his eyes but now it felt like something else did.
"I thought so," Audrey said again when he didn't reply.
"By the way, you have such poor taste. Couldn't you have gone for something different? This place is old and boring already. "
She rolled her eyes. Their drinks were served and soon the menu was to be brought to them.
"You have quite a taste, Ms. Audrey. "
"I'd rather you call me Audrey ".
"My father wants you to get married to me.
How much?" She asked him with her fingers rolling on the top of her glass.
"What?"
"You heard me , Everyone has a price, what do you want? I have enough to pay you off. Just name your price. "
AUDREY wanted to pay him off? Was that how desperate she was to stay unmarried?
Again, Ezra was mesmerized. Mostly taken aback by her statement. No woman has ever refused him, and here AUDREY was, offering to pay him money to call off the alliance. Interesting.
"You are right, Everyone has a price.I do not think mine is money. "
"C'MON, I have enough of that already. Offer something intriguing, Audrey. "
"Besides, what makes you think your father wouldn't find someone else to get you married to when I call it off?" He asked her with puzzled eyes.
"If he does, I'd be glad. At least I don't have to spend my life with a Man such as yourself "
"So tell me Mr, what do you want? I don't have time to waste. "
"One night. Just one night to myself, and maybe I will call this off. " He leaned back waiting for the desperate Audrey to say some.
Ezra wanted to spend a night with Audrey in exchange for the Alliance to be broken.
"How dare you? Low life.,Do you think I would spend a night with you? You are disgusting and worthless. " she ranted angrily.
"I'm nothing like the women you pick on the streets and pay off. You can keep dreaming. "
Audrey was unable to believe the absurd offer Ezra had put forth. Did he think she was going to give herself away in exchange for the break-in alliance? She was desperate but not stupid.
"Go back to the slums and find yourself a woman to satisfy your needs. Worthless bastard. " Audrey picked up her purse, stood up, and left the table leaving Ezra hanging.
Ezra had a wicked smirk of satisfaction on his face. How he enjoyed seeing her so pissed and angry. He enjoyed every bit of what just happened.
She insulted him but something about it just felt right. Was it her Audacious behavior or her offer? Was it her outspoken nature or her rude and ill manners? Ezra couldn't figure it out.

Audrey walked into the house, furious and disgusted. Her parents were curiously waiting to hear how it went. RAYMOND and Christine were both waiting eagerly for her to say something but they got nothing out of her. She ignored all their questions and stormed off to her room.
A few minutes later, Raymond went into Audrey's room. She was at the corner of her room seated in an Oversized chair with a bottle of Vodka and a glass half filled. A habit that tried to stop her from cultivating a long time ago. We all know how that went.
"Audy? "He said with a smile as he walked into her room. Audrey didn't understand the smile on his face. For all she knew, the date was a disaster and she knew he was going to lose his cool when he found out how it went.
He moved closer to where she was and patted her on her head.
"I'm proud of you. "
"Wh…."
"Ezra likes you and he wants to continue with the Alliance and get married to you as soon as possible. "
"What?" Audrey answered With surprise in her voice. She didn't know how to react to the news she had just gotten. The meeting didn't go well. She knew that and she also knew Ezra said nothing about calling the Alliance off but still everything was a shock to her.
"We are both proud of you and we want the best for you. Ezra is a good man. "
Now, Audrey was left all alone. Her biggest fear of marriage seemed to have been coming to pass. Getting married.
The preparation for their engagement ceremony began as soon as possible.
