I groan, opening my eyes before sitting upright on the bed, hearing what sounds like gunshots. Just then the house alarm goes off, causing all the lights to come on as well. What the hell? I jump off the bed and just then I hear my mother’s voice calling me. I rip the door open to see her running towards my room, only in her nighties.
“Thank God, you are okay,” she says, engulfing me in a hug, and I hug her back just as scared.
“What’s happening, mom? Are we under attack?” I ask in the hug, my body trembling like hers and she tells me she doesn’t know. But just then we hear the front door burst open.
