Darkness swallowed the room in an instant. Gasps echoed across the crowd as confused voices filled the air. Somewhere near the stage, someone dropped a glass, the sharp sound shattering into the noise. My pulse raced as I felt Alexander's hand immediately grip mine in the darkness, pulling me slightly closer to his side.
The room was alive with movement now,chairs scraping, guests murmuring nervously as they tried to understand what had happened. Then, through the chaos, I heard something that made my blood run cold. A single mechanical click.
