Chapter 2 Elisa “I see you were brought here,” the deep voice fills the room, sending chills down my spine. His back was turned to me, preventing me from his face. His shoulders were broad, straining his t-shirt slightly. “Good –good evening sir,” I stutter, my bag dropping to the floor. “I see Steve brought the wrong person,” he stated simply, still not moving a muscle. “I think it's a misunderstanding, i– I have no idea about the right or wrong person,” my voice coming out in a squeak, the air around me dropping to a zero degrees. “And what do you take me for? A fool?” No I take you as a sick, deformed braggart, but I don't say it out loud. “You sound a lot more squeaky than I expected,” he continues. “And you sound a lot more healthier than I expected,” I blurt out, instantly regretting my words. “I need to see this brazen brat,” he thunders, turning his body to face me. His dark hair is tousled just enough to be sexy without being bedhead messy. His strong, chiseled jaw is a insanely compliments his dark bottomless eyes, his black eyes deep and bottomless like the midnight. He looks fierce and gentle in the same breath, confusing me all the more. I really can’t get a read on him. Whoever spread the rumour about him being physically deformed, probably needs to get their brains checked. “Why the shocked look on your face,” he inquires, a smirk dancing on his lips, “ You did not expect this did you?” ALEX. The sun rises in the distance, its rays finding it's way to my face, almost blinding my eyes as they pierce through the window blinds. Sitting up on my bed, my eyes flicker to the white certificate laying casually on the table. Dragging my legs, I ambled towards it, grabbing it in one swift movement and studying it, digesting the words that were written on it. Right. "I am officially a married man now," I mused, throwing the certificate slip out of my hands. “Well look there, the damn certificate isn't even made of quality paper,” I sneer, watching it drop to the floor. My eyes trail and land on the spot where she stood yesterday night. The sound of her voice ringing repeatedly in my head. “I am sorry, I was sent in place of my sister,” her voice came out in almost a whisper. I remember her eyes all too vividly even though we only held contact for few seconds before she broke it. Her brown doe eyes similar to rich chocolate melting in the sun's golden rays. Stop it Alex, you should not be thinking about her, more so taking note of the color of her eyes. But they looked all too innocent, like they were livid of all the evil going on in the world. But it isn't enough, it isn't enough reason to trust her. Sending her here instead of her sister isn't a mere coincidence. They have something up their sleeves, the entire Davis family. My entire morning ritual was carried out with thoughts about her roaming freely through it. Would the thoughts about the goddamm girl just leave my head for f***s’ sake. Descending the stairs, I let my eyes scan the entire place, before heading towards the dining. “ahh, I see you are already up my dear,” my Nana beamed the minute she laid eyes on me. Her grey hair was packed in a bun, revealing her facial features more. Their were a few more visible wrinkles than there was during the last couple years. She looked up at me, her eyes glistening with joy. “yes I am,” I smiled, bending down and planting a kiss on her forehead. “good,” she beamed, placing the last table cloth on the table, “because I can't let a married man wake up without having his breakfast first. I know for sure, you must be drained after the nights activity,” she added, winking her eyes at me. “Ughh,” I groaned, rolling my eyes and throwing my head backwards, “Grandma, I am in no mood for your jokes at the moment,” I watched as she dragged her eyes, as if wanting to know what was behind me. “what are you looking for?” I inquired, following her eyes and twirling to see what was behind me. “your wife of course,” she stated simply, dropping the plate she was holding and adjusting her clothes, “ you came downstairs without her, what sort of husband are you?” She snapped, shoving me in the sides. “the kind that doesn't give a f**k?” I retorted, standing rooted to the position I was. “nonsense,” she claps back, “go upstairs and fetch her right away,” she demands, placing her hands on her waist, looking at me sternly. “what are you still doing here anyways? you are meant to be home or something,” I inquired, scratching my head nervously. “I am making sure you don't ruin your marriage with your own hands,” “uh huh,” I nodded absentmindedly, “ Anita,” I beckoned to the maid, “go call um, What's her name,” I fidgeted, snapping my fingers as I struggled to recall her name. “Elisa,” Nana corrected, “go fetch me Elisa,” “okay ma'am,” she trailed off, scurrying away and ascending the stairs. “I had no idea that they had someone as beautiful as that young girl,” Nana began, “I mean look how innocent she looks, and her eyes are something else more like, something intriguing. Don't you think?” Her eyes, the exact same thing that has been on my mind all through the night. Therr is some about those eyes, you cannot simply pull your self away from them. “Alex, are you even listening to me?” Nana's voice rang, dragging me out my head. “Um sorry, I was checking out my schedule in my head,” “Whatever,” she put forth, “ouu here she comes,” At the sound of her words, my eyes peel away from the neatly arranged table to the figure descending gracefully from the stairs. The blue night shorts clinging tightly to her body, enhancing her curves even more. “good morning ma'am,” she greeted, bowing slightly as she approached Nana. “nonsense,” Nana waved, gesturing for an embrace, “ call me Nana,” “Oh,” she mouthed, moving in for the embrace, “good morning Nana.” “come have a seat my dear,” Nana declared, releasing her from the embrace and guiding her to a seat. My stomach churned at the mere thought of having breakfast with her. “Alex, are you just going to stand there and do nothing?” Nana shot, throwing me daggers with her eyes, “come have a seat I made pancakes, your favourite breakfast,” “on a second thought, I would rather leave for work than get comfortable with this arrangement,” I drifted off, gesturing to the table setting. “Alex!” I heard her scream, as I jogged out of the house, shutting out her voice as I entered the car, driving out and leaving the mark of my tyres in the compound. *** Sitting in the club, the neon lights flickering, making it almost identical to identify any one's faces, the music buzzed throughout the entire room, blocking out the noise from the outside world, giving an illusion of being in another world. “Alex, my man,” Eric called out the minute he approached me, he looked much more casual in his joggers and t-shirt, compared to my red shirt and grey pants, “why call me out to come to a bar... most especially when you are dressed this way?” He inquires, stiffling a laughter as he gestured to my clothes. “would you quit asking me stupid questions and start ordering already,” I sneered, pulling out a chair for him. My behavior seeming almost gay.. eisssh. “I am just saying,” he shrugged, “ what is with the grumpy mood, I heard you got married, you should be happy in the least. tell me what is your new wife like? sexy? pretty? give me the deets,” he pressed, sitting down on the chair I pulled out. “I can not even bear to look her in the face, that is how hideous she is,” I lied, picturing her face once more, those gorgeous eyes, and her heart shaped lips, it took a lot of self restraint to prevent me from kissing them “woah Nana made a mistake there,”placing a hand over his mouth instantly, his voice coming out a little bit to loud, attracting stares from other people. “yeah a mistake,” I murmured, taking the glass of whiskey from the bartender. “you know the worse?” I continued, the whiskey burning the parts of my insides it reached, “ she is already butting in on my privacy. s**t!” I cursed out loud, “ the fool wanted to pass the night in my room… what is she a w***e?” “so what are your plans?” Eric inquired, his eyes studying my face intently, “Cause definitely you are not cool with this arrangement,” “to have her divorced of course, Nana seems to be raving non stop about her over breakfast I had to leave before my ears bleed out,” “let me get this straight, you left without eating breakfast and now you are downing alcohol?” He inquired, furrowing his eyebrows at every word, “are you even okay??” “Quit being rational, you are not even in the medical field,” I snorted, rolling my eyes and reaching for another shot. “sorry that I care too much about someone who wants to end his life.” his phone chimed, right after his sentence, “I need to get going,” he declared, after reading the contents of his message, “I have a board meeting in less than hour that I need to attend to,” “fine! leave me like you always do,” I groaned, grabbing another shot of whiskey. “I suggest you go home to your wife, rather than yourself in drinks,” “I will too busy, having fun with someone else,” I shrugged, downing the entire content at a go. “just know that whatever you do is considered cheating,” Eric declared, standing up from his chair and paying the bartender off. “not when you don't concede to the marriage,” I countered, my eyes following his every move. “same thing,” he clapped back, practically running out of the club. Pulling out my phone, and fiddling with it, scrolling mindlessly on social Media. these bloggers are always hungry for the latest gossip. A particular headline caught my attention, as I clicked on it to read more and ascertain that my eyes weren't playing games on me. “hi handsome,” a feminine voice came, distracting me from reading the post clearly, “Uh huh,” I nodded, absentmindedly putting my phone away.
