LEONARD KNOCKED SHARPLY on the nondescript apartment door. The light of the streetlamps peering in through the window of the lift lobby punctuated the darkness outside. There was no movement in the corridor and no sound coming from the other apartments, which was unsurprising given the lateness of the hour. The adrenaline pumping through Leonard’s system threatened to send him into overdrive and on into meltdown, until Ryan’s voice whispered quietly in Leonard’s head, ‘It’s okay, you got this. I’m with you every step of the way; I won’t let you fall. Just breathe.’ The soothing tones helped to calm Leonard’s jangling nerves.
‘Who the hell is that?’ came a loud voice from inside the apartment. ‘I didn’t order no pizza!’
