Chapter 28
I WAS SKILLED IN PATTERN recognition, ritual identification, and personality profiling. My high I.Q. and the ultra-functional logic centre of my brain had kicked back in. I was thankful that my extended period of d**g a***e didn’t appear to have done any permanent damage to my brain, although my ability to concentrate for long periods of time had still not returned. I was doing lots of research online through news feeds and true crime websites. My gut told me whoever killed Sally had done it before or again, so I was scouring the murder stories searching for a pattern. Her murder scene was too deliberate, too staged. The killer wanted me to find the body like that; it was part of the thrill, like the signature of a serial killer.
I spent all my spare hours at the local library as I used the public computers searching for clues. Finally, one day I connected the dots between a series of three kills in the wider DC area, all with a common thread—addiction.
First there was my darling Sally, a d**g addict. Then a smoking addict. And finally, a food addict. All the murders were deliberately and elaborately staged, with each of the victims killed in a manner related to their addiction. Plus, a loved one discovered each victim in a deliberate, orchestrated manner.
I had been trying for weeks, desperately searching for clues to Sally’s murder, to find some thread that might lead to something bigger. And now I had it! It was time to pull that thread of knowledge and see where it would lead.
