Curly FlatmatesKit skidded to a halt next to Jerry’s sleep-out. The rickety garden fence gave way to an extensive section of land spanning the width of the property. It led towards a ridge in the distance and a wide gully lay beyond that. At the tallest part of the landscape, sat a rusty shed constructed from mismatched pieces of corrugated iron like a boil on a lumpy bottom. A gate from the main road wore a sign declaring, “Trespassers will be persecuted.” In the years she’d rented the house from the land agent, Kit hadn’t explored the paddock.
