Episode Three: The Letters Behind the Wall
For several days, Amara searched her grandmother’s house with renewed determination.
She examined cupboards, boxes, drawers, and forgotten corners.
Then, behind an old bookshelf, she noticed something unusual.
One section of the wooden wall moved slightly.
Amara pushed it.
A hidden compartment opened.
Inside was a bundle of twelve letters secured with a faded blue ribbon.
Every envelope carried Daniel’s name.
Her hands shook as she opened the first one.
The letters revealed a story far different from the one everyone had believed.
Daniel had survived the railway accident but suffered serious injuries and memory loss. By the time he recovered, he discovered that Amara’s grandmother had been told he was dead.
He tried to return home.
But his family had intervened.
They had deliberately concealed the truth because they wanted Daniel to marry another woman whose family could strengthen their business.
Daniel refused.
Rather than surrender to their demands, he left and began building an independent life elsewhere.
Yet he never forgot Amara’s grandmother.
For years, he sent letters.
He never demanded that she return to him. He simply wanted her to know that he had never intentionally abandoned her.
The final letter was especially powerful.
If life ever gives us another opportunity, I will return. If it doesn't, perhaps these words will eventually reach someone who deserves to know the truth.
Amara wiped away a tear.
Then she noticed something.
Every letter had been posted from the same coastal town.
She searched the town's public records.
One name appeared repeatedly.
Daniel Morgan.
Her heart stopped.
He was alive.
Amara hurriedly prepared for the journey.
But beneath the letters, she discovered one final message from her grandmother:
“Before you search for yesterday, first understand what tomorrow should become.”
