Ticking Clock

26: “How many were killed?” Jerome demands. The wolf looks up at him, his eyes trying to catch the other alphas behind him, looking for something like support. Aurora knows that look all too well. She’s given and received it many times. She never thought she would see that look—that desperate look—on an alpha. And she watches the other wolf’s face fall when he realizes he’s on his own with facing the consequences of what he was about to say to Jerome. No one disappoints Jerome. Not even the alphas. “None, sir,” the alpha finally reports. “None,” Jerome hums in a way that immediately puts them all on edge. “And how many on patrol tonight?” “Five,” the wolf swallows. “But— I’m the only one left.” “A shame,” the alpha tsks. “But at least you made it back to us to give your report.”
