11 ELISE I was almost out the door when Walter asked if he could talk to me. He was talking to someone else, so I waited to the side and tried not to eavesdrop on his conversation. “Thanks, Elise,” he said when he joined me. “You came in at noon today, right?” I nodded. “Yeah, why? Do you need me to stay?” He sighed. “I do. If you can.
