Samedi’s body went rigid before reaching down to his side, where a blade tore out of him from within. Letting loose an ear-piercing howl, Samedi grabbed at the blade, cutting his hands in the process; the composite body made from Grandmother’s blood, David watched with fascination, as the blood surrounding the knife sank through and into the wound. David looked down to the book where black blood spewed up from the hole he’d plunged into the worn pages. Ripping the knife out of the book, he held it high above his head. “Well Samedi? How secure do you feel now? Still think I can’t defy you?” David asked before slamming the wavy knife again into the book, wiggling it a bit to rip open the hole in the page a little wider.
