The pond was crowded with laughing teens, several small fires started for melting marshmallows or cooking fish dredged up from the waters. The large tree that extended out over the water had a tire swing that younger kids were clutching to as they swung out over the dark waters, the weather not exactly cold enough to dissuade swimming. Other teens were dressed in sweaters and jeans, sitting around as they traded stories of the past week while passing around bottles or hand-rolled cigarettes.
