Elestria rose from the sofa, turning off the living room lights with a soft click.
She grabbed a few things she needed, put them into her bag, then walked quietly into the nursery, the room she and Kyran had once decorated together, side by side. From the drawer of the bedside table, she took out a sheet of paper that had been placed there a week before.
A medical report. The words stood out clearly. Early pregnancy, about 10 weeks.
For a long, still moment, she just stared. Then, firmly, she tore it into small pieces and let them fall into the trash.
She was just about to leave quietly when a figure rushed out from behind.
A strong hand pressed hard over her mouth and nose, stopping her cry. "Don't blame me. Blame your husband, he reached out and took the woman I love!"
Before Elestria could even understand what was happening, a sharp, burning pain struck her throat. Everything turned red before her eyes.
At that same moment, she remembered the promise she had made long ago, before she and Kyran were together.
"Kyran, if you are with me, you are mine forever. I cannot stand a man who is unfaithful. If you ever betray me, if you are ever untrue, I will disappear from your life completely."
She had said those words, and now they had come back to her, heavy and true. Now, truly and completely, she would disappear from Kyran's world, forever.
An hour later, her body was placed inside the small closet in the nursery.
Boom! At one in the morning, the new year lit up the sky over Victoria Peak with bursts of bright fireworks. Every year at this time, Kyran would light up the sky just so she could see.
After 1 a.m. VIP Lounge, Top Floor, Morpho Elite Club. Kyran sat leaning back on the central sofa, drinking wine slowly from a glass held out by a woman.
"Kyran, it is New Year's Eve and your tenth wedding anniversary, how is it that your wife let you come out alone?"
The one who spoke was Genevieve Tate, second child of a wealthy property owner, a friend known to both Kyran and Elestria.
Kyran shrugged, seeming not to care. "We had an argument."
Genevieve blinked, looking surprised. "An argument? Elestria would never start a fight with you. There must be some misunderstanding, is that not so?"
All these years, Genevieve had only ever known Elestria to be gentle and kind. No matter what happened, they had never seen her face show anger. Even the public had only good things to say about her. Even after stepping away from acting, she still had millions of people who loved and admired her.
After all, Elestria loved Kyran with all her heart. She had given up her career for him. And in the early days when he was building his business, she had drunk glass after glass of strong alcohol, all to help him win over important partners.
That night, she had almost lost her life because of it! How could such a woman ever start a fight with Kyran for no reason?
Kyran thought of the way Elestria had questioned him about Zyrelle, and his face grew dark with anger as he spat, "What misunderstanding could there be? She is simply impossible to please! After all these years, have I not treated her well enough?"
Seeing how angry he was, Genevieve wisely decided not to say more.
"Kyran, do not be upset. Have another drink." A hostess at the club, known for being beautiful and popular, spoke softly as she handed him a glass.
At that moment, the rich young men in the private room began calling out loudly, "Kyran, drinking like that is no fun at all! Kissing is where the real excitement is!"
Genevieve frowned. "Kyran has a wife. You are trying to get him into trouble!"
Hearing the word "wife", Kyran, whether out of anger or just because he no longer wanted to seem like a faithful husband, said, "Genevieve, do not spoil the mood. We are here to enjoy ourselves." He pulled the woman close by her waist as she leaned forward, holding wine in her mouth.
Their lips were almost touching when, suddenly, he remembered Elestria as she was at seventeen. She had said to him then, "Kyran, now that we are together, you must never kiss anyone else. Promise?"
For no reason he could explain, his chest felt suddenly tight and painful. He turned his face away quickly, so that her lips touched his neck instead. He pushed her away and walked quickly toward the restroom. Water ran loudly from the tap, while outside, fireworks continued to light up the sky.
He washed his face with cold water, then pressed a hand to his chest, where his heart was beating fast and hard. He could not understand why, but at that moment, he felt as though something very important had left him forever.
After a long moment, the strange feeling slowly faded. All the desire to stay and party left him. He walked out to his car.
His driver looked back at him nervously through the mirror, and spoke quietly, "Mr. Valtor, back to Victoria Peak?" Victoria Peak was the home he shared with Elestria.
"No." Kyran rubbed the space between his eyes. "Take me to Westhaven Cove"
Number 99 Westhaven Cove was the home Kyran had bought for Zyrelle Viora.
From New Year's Eve onward, one whole week passed. Kyran had not returned to Victoria Peak even once. Each day after work, he went between the club and the house at Westhaven Cove.
One day at noon, his assistant, Kian, brought his meal as he always did.
Kyran frowned the moment he saw the food. "Why is this from that restaurant again?"
Kian spoke carefully. "In the past, your wife always cooked your meals herself and had them sent over. I only ordered food from outside on rare occasions. But lately, I have not been able to reach her."
Kyran realized then, he had not spoken to Elestria in seven days. He picked up his phone and looked. Nothing. Not one message, not one missed call since New Year's Eve.
Before that, if he had been away for more than three days, she would have searched everywhere until she found him. What had happened? Without waiting another moment, he called her number.
