Chapter 5

His eyes narrowed sharply as he stared at the message from her, gone for so many days. He opened it and read. Elestria: Honey, transfer $1 million to me. The card ends at 6098. What Kyran had forgotten, or simply never bothered to notice, was that Elestria had never once called him "honey" before. He read her request for money and let out a cold laugh, then typed back. Kyran: Elestria, you disappeared for days, and now you send this just to get money from me? Have I not given you enough already? One second passed, two seconds... no reply. He sent another message, his face turning cold. Kyran: I will send you the money. But you must come home to get it. Once the message showed as delivered, he walked back into the private room, his expression hard and unreadable. Inside the room, Genevieve, their good friend, watched him return and could not stay silent. "Kyran, your wife still has not come home. Could something have happened to her? She is not the kind of woman to stay away for weeks. Should we not send people to look for her?" she asked. Beside them, Zyrelle's expression shifted, a shadow crossing her face. Lately, she had been moving about freely, acting as if she belonged in his life. If Elestria came back, would she be pushed aside and ignored once more? Kyran took a slow sip of his drink. "There is no need. She just messaged me asking for money." His gaze turned sharp and cold. "You do not know Elestria? That woman can drink glass after glass of strong alcohol without showing any sign of it. What could possibly happen to her?" Hearing those words, Zyrelle suddenly felt that Kyran did not love Elestria nearly as much as people said. She spoke softly, her voice sweet and gentle. "Elestria will feel better once she has spent some money, and then she will come home. Genevieve, you really do not need to worry about Kyran's behalf. People might begin to say things that are not true." After hearing her speak, Genevieve decided to say nothing more. As for Kyran, his eyes rested on Zyrelle, young, beautiful, always soft and obedient, never once arguing with him. Not like Elestria, who would give him a cold look over the smallest thing. For all her youth, Zyrelle knew exactly how to please people. In just one evening, she had every wealthy young man in the VIP lounge treating her like a guest of honor. Elestria would have told him to stop drinking, ruining the mood for everyone. But tonight, the sky showed no mercy, thunder rolled, lightning cut through the dark, and heavy rain poured down. On the way back, a sudden gust of wind nearly turned the umbrella inside out. Zyrelle hurried ahead and stepped into the black luxury car. "Kyran, hurry! You will get soaked!" The sight of her brought back a memory he had not thought of in years. A memory from more than a decade ago, rising up at the worst possible moment. He had just returned from America, having earned his first fortune, every dollar put into building the company he was just starting. Elestria had lived with him in a small, crowded apartment back then, yet every single day, she would come and walk him home from work. He remembered one rainy day exactly like this. She had held the umbrella, leaning it gently toward him so he stayed dry, saying nothing. "Do not get wet, or you will fall ill." She had looked up at him and smiled, her face glowing. Back then, Kyran had felt deep guilt, but Elestria had only said, "Kyran, I know one day you will become someone great. Just promise me, when you succeed, there will be only one woman in your home and in your heart. Me. That is all I asked." A dull ache spread through his chest. "Kyran, what is wrong?" Zyrelle's voice pulled him back to the present. "It is nothing. Just a little pain in my stomach." Kyran stepped into the car, his face looking pale. Zyrelle looked at him with concern. "Kyran, I did not know you had stomach trouble. If I had known, I would have taken those drinks for you." Hearing her say that, Kyran suddenly asked, curiosity rising in his voice, "Zyrelle, if I were poor today and had nothing at all, would you still stay by my side, even if I had no money and no position?" Zyrelle froze. Her smile looked forced and uncertain. "Of course I would. Elestria simply met you first. If I had met you before her, I would be the one standing here with you today." Kyran had spent more than ten years navigating the business world, he could tell when someone was lying. Still, Zyrelle knew exactly what to say to please him. He remembered asking Elestria that very same question once before. Back then, she had grown angry and replied, "If staying by your side for over ten years is not enough to prove how much I love you, then believe whatever you want to believe. Think I am only with you for your money." That Elestria, she could never say sweet words just to make him happy. Kyran slowly closed his eyes and said nothing more. Outside the car window, the storm continued to rage. He had the driver drop Zyrelle off at Number 99 Westhaven Cove, then went on alone toward Victoria Peak. It had been half a month since he was last at the mansion. The large, beautiful home lay wrapped in darkness. He walked through the garden toward the front door, and then he saw her, a familiar figure standing beneath an umbrella, her back turned toward him. At that moment, Kyran rushed forward and caught her by the wrist. "Elestria. You have finally come home."
