Vespera’s cries and accusations did not move Kyran at all.
He looked back at her calmly, as though the body still in that room was not Elestria at all. Then a new voice cut through the silence.
"Excuse me, Mr. Valtor? We are from the Criminal Investigations Division. I am Detective Corvus." The man showed his badge. "We received a report concerning Elestria’s sudden and unnatural death. We have questions for you. Please come with us." His voice was polite but firm, and carried clear authority.
Police. Elestria. Unnatural death. The words rang in Kyran’s mind.
He blinked, feeling dazed and confused. "If this is about my wife being missing, I do need to report it, but not to the police."
The moment those words left his mouth, Vespera and everyone standing nearby fell silent in shock.
