The Rogue Who Lost the Moon

The air changed before he arrived. Lidia felt it in her bones. She was standing by the window in Ethan’s small house, staring out at a world that still didn’t make sense—lights too bright, sounds too sharp, everything too… wrong. And then— Her wolf stirred. Not fully. Not strongly. But enough. A low, trembling growl echoed inside her chest. Lidia froze. “He’s here,” she whispered. Behind her, Ethan straightened instantly. “Who?” She didn’t turn. Because she already knew. “The one I was meant to marry.” Miles away— The night split open. Not with sound. Not with light. But with something far more unnatural. Reality… folded. A ripple tore through the air in the middle of an empty stretch of land outside the city. The ground cracked beneath an unseen force, trees bending violently as if bowing to something ancient and powerful. And then— He stepped through. Kael Draven did not stumble. Did not hesitate. Did not falter. Time itself bent around him as his boots met foreign ground. His silver eyes scanned the unfamiliar world—cold, calculating, lethal. The scent hit him instantly. Metal. Smoke. Human. His lip curled slightly in distaste. “So this is where you ran,” he murmured. But beneath it all— There. Faint. Fragile. Her. The bond surged violently in his chest, pulling him forward like a chain forged by the moon itself. Lidia. Alive. Weakened. And not alone. His expression darkened. Ethan moved closer to Lidia, his voice low but steady. “Talk to me,” he said. “What’s happening?” She turned to him then—and for the first time, Ethan saw real fear in her eyes. Not panic. Not confusion. Fear of something specific. “He’s not just any Alpha,” she said quietly. “He’s… power. Law. Bloodline.” “Your fiancé?” Her jaw tightened. “My cage.” Before Ethan could respond— The front door exploded inward. Wood splintered. Air pressure slammed through the house like a shockwave. Ethan reacted instantly, pulling Lidia behind him as a tall figure stepped through the shattered entrance. For a moment— Everything stilled. Even time seemed to hesitate. Kael stood in the doorway, framed by darkness and moonlight. He did not belong here. That much was obvious. Power rolled off him in waves—raw, controlled, terrifying. His gaze locked onto Lidia. And the world disappeared. Lidia couldn’t breathe. It was him. Not a vision. Not a dream. Real. Stronger than anything she had ever felt. The bond slammed into her like a tidal wave, lighting up every nerve in her body. Her wolf surged— awake. Alive. Roaring. “Kael…” she breathed. His name tasted like destiny. Like something she had tried—and failed—to escape. His expression didn’t soften. But something shifted in his eyes. Relief. Buried deep beneath control. “You ran far,” he said, his voice low, steady, commanding. Each word wrapped around her like invisible chains. “But not far enough.” Ethan stepped forward. Between them. Lidia’s breath caught. “Hey,” Ethan said sharply. “You don’t just break into someone’s house like that.” Kael’s gaze flicked to him. And in that instant— Everything changed. The air grew heavier. Darker. Predatory. “You stand between an Alpha and what is his,” Kael said calmly. Ethan didn’t move. Lidia felt it—the clash of two worlds. Two forces. Two very different kinds of strength. Kael took a single step forward. “You don’t understand what she is,” Kael said. Ethan’s jaw tightened. “Then explain it.” “I don’t explain myself to humans.” “I’m not just human,” Ethan shot back. That— That made Kael pause. His eyes narrowed slightly. For the first time, he really looked at Ethan. Sensed him. Something ancient flickered in Kael’s expression. Recognition. “Interesting,” Kael murmured. “Stop!” Lidia stepped forward, her voice breaking through the tension like a blade. Both men turned to her. The bond pulsed violently. Her wolf pushed forward, stronger now in Kael’s presence—but unstable, flickering between strength and collapse. “I will not go back,” she said, her voice shaking but determined. “I choose this.” Kael’s gaze softened—just a fraction. “The bond chooses for you.” “No,” she snapped. “That’s exactly what I ran from!” Then Kael said something that changed everything. “You think this is about marriage?” he said quietly. “What do you mean?” she asked. “This isn’t just a bond,” he said. “It’s a fracture.” Her heart skipped. “A what?” Kael took another step closer—slower now, less threatening. “Time is breaking, Lidia,” he said. Ethan frowned. “Okay, I’m definitely going to need more context—” “You crossed into a world that isn’t yours,” Kael continued, ignoring him. His gaze locked onto hers. “You crossed into a time that was never meant to exist for you.” Lidia’s stomach dropped. “I didn’t choose that,” she whispered. “I know.” “Then why is it happening?” Kael’s expression hardened. “Because someone made it happen.”
