Meeting the big brother

601 Words
Meghan POV (Flashback continued) I stared in awe at how beautiful the house looked. The big brother clearly had plenty of money. What amused me most was that Ethan did not seem like a rich kid; he had always acted so normal. Seeing this beautiful home made me wonder what else he might be hiding. "This place is stunning," I said as we walked inside. "Everyone says that," he replied with a smirk. "You must be rich," I said again. "It belongs to my brother," Ethan clarified. "He’s a lawyer and a businessman." The way he spoke about his brother made me certain they were very close and shared a deep bond. I wished I had a sibling or even someone I could call a brother, but I had been born alone. Now, with my parents gone, I felt completely alone in the world. "Will he be happy to see me here?" I asked nervously. "Come on, Meghan Rogers, I’ve told you ten times that Jeff has no problem with you being here," Ethan replied. He had reassured me many times, but deep down, I was still terrified. I did not know how to act around other people, especially someone I had never met. We finally stopped in the driveway, which held about five cars, each looking expensive and meticulously maintained. Ethan opened the door for me, planting a small comforting kiss on my lips before we headed inside. My heart was pounding. The house was filled with art; paintings and sculptures adorned the walls. Despite Ethan telling me they didn’t have a regular maid only a male helper who came once a week -the place was immaculate and organized. "Make yourself comfortable," Ethan said, heading to the kitchen to get us some drinks. Curiosity got the better of me, and I wandered around, examining the photos on the walls. That is when I saw him—Jeff. A tall, well- built man with piercing blue eyes and a serious expression. He looked to be about twenty-five or older. I could see how anyone could get lost in those eyes. "Hello," a voice said from behind me, making me spin around in panic. One of the flower vases toppled to the ground. "s**t," I muttered, scrambling to pick it up. "Stop!" someone shouted. I looked up to meet the same intense blue eyes from the photo. My heart raced. This was Jeff, the older brother, and I was already nervous out of my mind. "I… I’m sorry," I stammered. This wasn’t like me. I wasn’t usually shy, but his gaze made me feel small and out of control. "How can you be this careless?" he demanded, clearly angry. A rather intimidating welcome, I thought. I started to reply, but Ethan entered with two glasses of juice. "You took too long to come and save me from your sexy big brother… What did I say?" "Oh… Jeff, you’re already here," Ethan said, observing the tension in the room. He quickly added, "No, no, Jeff, stop scaring my girlfriend already." "Scaring? Look at what she’s done!" Jeff exclaimed, pointing at the broken vase on the floor. My first day here, and I was already in the bad books of the homeowner. How was i going to live here if that was how everything started. "It’s nothing; she’s a guest," Ethan interjected. Immediately, Jeff stormed out of the room. I exhaled sharply, feeling like I had narrowly escaped a death sentence. I didn’t even realize I had been holding my breath the entire time. * My dear readers, thank you for reading my books.
