Chapter 2

1310 Words
Years ago, if Ellyse had seen her husband with his ex, she would’ve cried in front of him. She would’ve asked him why, she would’ve pleaded for him to stop seeing her. And for the past four years, he hasn’t. Atleast not in her knowledge. But seeing him with her now after finding out that she was pregnant yesterday felt painful. She loved Kai with all her heart and even went through extreme lengths just to gain his favor. She scoured the internet for sites and books on how to be a great wife. She devoted all her time and attention to him whenever he was home. She believed that one day, everything would change and he would soon realize her significance in his life. But 6 years stretch on like nothing, and Kai is still the same indifferent and cold guy she’d married. Tears were streaming down her face, she wanted to scream, to leave her car and go to that restaurant to confront them. She wanted to ask him countless questions. Ellyse’s heart felt like it was being torn apart. And it was so painful. Seeing the man you love and care for spend time with another woman, how he’s able to smile at her, to appear care-free and attentive while to her—he was the complete opposite. Almost like a robot. In the height of her emotions, Ellyse took out her phone from her bag and quickly called Kai. She saw how Kai glanced over his phone that’s sitting on the table, he touched it before picking it up. Agatha saw her name appear on his screen, her mouth stretched into a grim line. Kai muttered something to her before he answered her call. Finally, she thought. “Hello?” His baritone voice resounded throughout her car. Ellyse bit her lower lip as tears were rolling down her cheeks nonstop. “Where are you?” Her voice was stagnant, masking the emotions she was feeling. Ellyse’s eyes were fixed on Kai as we scanned his eyes around the restaurant and then to Agatha, who raised her eyebrows. “I just landed earlier, I’m having lunch,” He answered straightforwardly. It seems like Victoria’s plead worked. He did exactly what she said, Ellyse wondered if he already knew that she’s pregnant. Because if he knew, and thought of spending time with his mistress first rather than to check on his pregnant wife, then that just goes to show where his priorities lie. “With who?” Ellyse probed. Kai’s brows knitted together. Ellyse had always been understanding and nice to him. Before, she wouldn’t ask anymore questions and just end the call, afraid it would bother him. But now, she doesn’t care anymore. “A friend,” Kai answered simply. Ellyse bit her lower lip, the pain was too much. Seeing Kai with Agatha, she made up her mind now. She’s going to proceed with the divorce. “Kai…” She muttered lowly, her voice almost breaking. “Hm?” He hummed, he looked bored. She took a deep breath before braising herself for the next thing she was about to say. “Do you love me?” Six years of marriage and yet not once did she ask him if he loved her. Maybe she was scared of his answer, because deep down, she knew wholeheartedly what his answer would be. There was a long line of silence. Ellyse saw the shock look on Kai’s face as he turned to look at Agatha. He licked his lips before shifting on his seat uncomfortably. “I’m busy right now, I can’t have this conversation,” He says coldly before ending the call, not even giving Ellyse the chance to speak. Ellyse laughed in disbelief as she saw how Kai who had recently told her that he was busy, is now talking to Agatha. It appalls her to know that Kai could willingly engage in a conversation with another person but when it comes to her, it almost seems like everytime Ellyse would try to strike a conversation, Kai wanted it to end immediately. Does he really hate her that much? He hates her so much for agreeing to get married when in reality, she was also forced in their marriage. She wanted to pursue her masters overseas, to build her own firm. But because she needed to get married and provide an heir, she cut those dreams short. But everything will change now. With a heavy heart, Ellyse wiped the tears staining her eyes before stepping on her car’s accelerator. She drove as fast as she could until she arrived at their mansion. She took out the divorce papers from her drawer to sign it. She already had her lawyer scan this for her and had it delivered just a week ago. She had already planned it out perfectly. Everything she would need once the divorce was finalized; a house, money, the papers. Last week, she bought a house an hour away from here. She plans to stay there until she could move to a different place. The plan before was to study her masters here, and then move out afterwards. However, since she’s pregnant, she’ll put her masters on pause. She went to Kai’s study and placed the papers over his desk before packing her things. Claire was still at school, she doesn’t need to know that her parents are at the brink of a separation. Ellyse plans to transition Claire slowly so she wouldn’t feel shocked with the sudden changes. After packing, Ellyse called out their maids to help her with her five luggages. They stashed it into her car. “You’re leaving for a vacation, Ma’am?” Nerisa, their maid asked. “No, I’m leaving for good Nerisa,” Ellyse said dismissively. Nerisa was shocked but didn’t push for any questions and assumed that Ellyse finally had enough of her cold and scary husband. Good for her, she thought. As Ellyse drove her car to her new home, she recounted her and Kai’s wedding, and how it felt like to dream of a bright future. She was so hopeful, and so damn delusional for thinking that someone like Kai could love her. When she arrived at her new home, she unpacked her things, ordered fast food and slept inside her house in the afternoon. However, she was woken up by the sound of her phone ringing nonstop. She quickly rose to check who’s calling her and saw Kai’s name on the screen. He must’ve found the divorce papers now, she thought. Ellyse can already imagine how happy Kai is knowing that she’s the one who filed for divorce and not the other way around. That only means that he doesn’t have to deal with his family scrutinizing him. She answered the call while rubbing her left eye. “Where are you?” His tone sounded both relaxed and rushed. “Why are you calling this late?” Ellyse glanced outside, the moon was up. “Answer my question,” He replies instead. “I’m at home,” She says, looking around her new home. “You’re not here,” His words almost came our forced. Ellyse was shocked at Kai’s implication. What is he trying to say? Has he seen the papers? “Have you seen the papers?” Ellyse felt sleepy earlier, but now she feels more awake than ever. “Yes,” His voice was hoarse. “I assume you’ve signed them?” She probes. “No…” He uttered. Now that was something Ellyse hadn’t anticipated. He hasn’t signed them yet? Why? What’s stopping him? Ellyse thought. “Not yet,” He continues. Oh, She thought. “Why not?” There was silence. “Come home,” Is what he only said. “What?” “Just come home, Ellyse.”
