Eight He’d given Becky five days of privacy with only one phone call on Sunday morning to ask her to genuinely consider what she wanted. It fortified his hope that she’d promised she would and thanked him for giving her the space and time to work through it. They’d both been busy with work, so it had been easy in the physical sense to maintain his promise to avoid unduly influencing her one way or the other. Emotionally, however, it had taken far more willpower than he’d anticipated to stop himself from calling her. Today, at last, his waiting would end. Shane ascended the steps to the deck of the Bedspread’s restaurant with his father right behind him. The dining room was more crowded than usual, but today it was filled with locals attending the annual Thanksgiving potluck. Jake Sterli
